MP3 files will not play

I copied DRM-free MP3 files from my retired Droid that had played just fine on the Droid onto my computer, and then copied them onto my Charge. The files and MP3 tags are seen on the Charge since it knows about all of the artists and albums, but when I try to play them through the included Music Player app, on every track I get the message "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file", and if I try to play them with the Google Music app, I get the message "Error playing the requested track".

 

If I reboot the phone, the tracks to start playing fine, but at some point they go back to being unplayable.

 

Any solutions out there?  (Other than rebooting?)

Hmmm... I don't have a definitive answer to your problem, but I have some questions and guesses.

 

First, can you play these files using your media player on your computer?  Any problems similar to what happens on your phone?

 

Second, what was the source of the files in the first place?  You say you had them on your old Droid, but where did they come from in the first place?  Do you still have them stored at that original location?

 

Third, I did an internet search and came up with some similar problems, but not on the Droid Charge.  One person in a thread said he solved his problem (he was trying to store/play MP3s on a Nook, I think) by re-encoding the files using Nero, a computer-based application that does cost money to purchase.  You may want to consider that alternative if all else fails.  And of course I make no warranty that Nero will work for you.
