canceling a line on a family share plan

I am on a family share plan with an ex friend and her parents...and I am the 5th line on the account. I want to drop my account and go to at and t with my boyfriend...but don't want to pay the cancelation fee. Is there anyway I can do this? I am paying 65 a month with them and get limited calling and texting and thats it. Can I get rid of it with them or go to my own account? how could this all work?

If the account is not in your name, then the account holder would need to release the line to you, or approve the port to another carrier. If you port to AT&T, or any carrier other than Verizon, you will probably owe an ETF on your line. When is your contract up on that line?

If you take over the line (AOL) and then try to move to AT&T, you will still have an ETF if the line is still in contract - an AOL does not change your contract dates.

It sounds like you need to sit down with the account owner, and decide how to end the relationship in away that works for both of you. Perhaps there is someone else willing to take over the line?
