When can I activate??

I purchased a droid x from a friend of mine for next to nothing. He was moving away and went with another wireless provider. Anyways we went to swap from my Bold to his Droid and were told that his contract was not up until the 16th. Well it will be the 16th in 5 minutes and I am wondering if I must wait until the 17th to activate the droid or will I be clear to do it when midnight rolls around.....

Until your friend has received his final bill and has PAID it, you will not be able to activate the phone.

Thanks Budone, here is the deal, I am unable to reach him to verify his final bill being paid. If I try to activate the phone will it at some point let me know that the phone is currently in another plan. When I turn it on it just says touch the droid logo to activate and then gives me a start activation button. I was told at our local store that If I activated it before his contract was up, my data use could be charged to his plan even though the phone is activated under my number.

If you get it activated on your current line, the data charge to his line can not occur.

Simply shut off your old device, Dial *228 from the Droid X and see if you are allowed to activate on your line. If not, you need to wait.

The last bill needs to be generated AND paid in full before a phone is released to be used by someone else.

Have they cancelled their line, either by calling VZW or by porting to their new carrier?

Well, I turned off my BB, turned on the droid. Went to activate phone and it did not give me an option as to what number to activate it to. It automatically activated to his account, guess his final bill hasn't been paid yet. Now how do I reset this thing back to factory settings? LOL

Thanks for posting! In order for you to activate the Droid X the device has to be removed from your friend’s account. If you’re having difficulty activating the device, there is a possibility that his line is still active with the Droid X. Once his line is deactivated or he removes the device from his line the device can be activated on yours. Then you can simply power off your Blackberry Bold, turn on the Droid X and dial *228 send and select option 1 to activate. You can also log in to My Verizon to activate the device by going to: I Want To… > Device > Select your mobile number and Next > Accept the Terms and Conditions > Select Activate Device and Enter Device ID.
