Droid 3 - Can't save ringtones from TXT message.

So, it should be simple... when you buy a ringtone VZ sends you a text message with the tone attached. You hold your finger on it, pops up a menu and you click save.

However, my problem is every time I click 'save' it says "Error Saving Attachement" and provides no other useful info. I've tried removing my SD card, using another SD card, and still no matter what it just says it can't save it. Doesn't tell me where, or why.... just that it can't.

If I pick the 'play audio' option instead of 'save audio' it plays just fine. Even tried saving it from the playback screen and still get the 'Error Saving Attachment'.

Any ideas?

Definitely sounds like a bug, even though the steps you have posted sound like the correct steps to save the audio file with a Motorola android phone.

Agreed. I've tried this on a few other phones and it works just fine.

I wonder if it's got something to do with the whole 'internal storage' thing that this phone has confusing it? For example, the camera will not take pictures unless you have an SD card in. Which I think is stupid, since it's got 16gig of internal storage I personally think you shouldn't *need* an SD card for anything in it.

Anyway just guessing, but would be nice if someone from VZ has a solution. I think it's funny they have a tutorial on how to do this, with this phone, and it doesn't work. The options that pop up aren't even identical to the screenshots they provide.

Thank you christr for your inquiry, and thanks to everyone that shared your concern. I have seen a few reports of this issue on this device recently, but have seen a similar issue on other Android devices. What seemed to work on other devices, and what I would suggest you try, is sending yourself a picture then saving that picture. You can also have someone else send you a picture and then save it. After saving the picture, try saving the ringtone again.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I'm still getting the "Error Saving Attachment" message.

I sent myself a pic and it saved fine. Also had a friend send a pic and that saved to the SD card just fine as well. Went back to the ringtone, and as before, I can play it, but can't save it. Restarted the phone (full power down, battery out, power back up) as well. No luck.

Same here. I have a Droid X, just purchased a ringtone and can't save "error saving attachment". Powered off and on, still won't save. If the problem cant be resolved, how do I get my account credited for the purchase?

Good morning and thank you to the community for all of your responses.

After thorough research, I found that with the Droid 3, you are able to download ringtones; however, this is only available by downloading VCast Tones from the Market and downloading directly from that application on your phone. There are also other applications that will allow you to download ringtones and music onto you device; however, this all needs to be done from the device, through applications from the Market.

I have a Droid 2 and I'm having the same issue as everyone else: verizon sent a ringtone through a text message, and now I can't save the ringtone in order to use it. You're saying that it is not possible to download ANY ringtone to ANY Droid unless you download via an app?

I've already paid for this ringtone, how do I use it? Or am I able to get a refund?

For a Droid 2, you should be able to long press the attachment (provided it is completely downloaded to the device) and get an options menu with the choice to save the audio or something like that.

Same problem. VZW tech support useless. Workaround: Forget about buying the ringtone from Verizon (and get a credit from them for the one you did buy). Fine the same tune on Amazon MP3 site, buy it for on 99 cents, download "ringtone maker" app from Amazon Marketplace. Use "ringtone maker" to load the tune as your ringtone.

I liked my droid at first, but the longer I own it, the more bugs I'm running into that Verizon can't seem to figure out or fix.

New to the 'Droid World' and wished I monitored this post prior to purchase. Not an avid thumber...yet...but am a Geek from way back. I have several ringtone clips I've created from music I own using WinMovie Maker that I've used on my LG phones. i.e., "My Girl' for my One and Only, 'He Ain't Heavy' for my best friend, 'Witchie Woman' for my sister, etc. So, my question: What format or process does the Droid understand so I can convert, or simply use, my music for specific and individual incoming calls? Is this do-able?

Let me know; I have seven days to return"'if not completly satisfied"... And I would like to be satisfied.

What is the file format for these ringtone files? Depending on the format, you might be able to drag and drop the files onto your SD card and have the phone recognize the files.

You would need to create the following file structure in the root of the SD card and place the files in the appropriate areas.

SDcard drive:/media/audio/ringtones

SDcard drive:/media/audio/notifications

SDcard drive:/media/audio/alarms

This is totally unacceptable. I get an email offering ringtones from Verizon. I opted to buy from them thinking it was safe and a for sure thing. I make the purchase only to get the error message when I try to save. Now I find out they say you shouldn't purchase them online but from mobile. Nice advice only too late! Definitely disappointed in Verizon and will make sure to let my friends know what a ripoff it was to purchase Verizon ringtones. Hard to believe a reputable company like this would not have a fix or at least a refund .
