Incredible not receiving text messages

My Droid Incredible will not recieve text messages. It's been going on for two days now. At first I had the "low space" icon, so I called Verizon, and after an hour on the phone and deleting lots of things, the icon went away. Still no text messages. I called again tonight. They did some other resets and things but ultimately couldn't figure out what was wrong. The tech said he'd call back in a few days with an update on the situation. I even downloaded the hotfix from HTC that Verizon didn't reccomend I do, which also didn't help the situation. Really?? This Incredible is obvioulsy a defect phone. Just the problem with the low storage space is ridiculous. No other phone has that glitch that makes users keep a minimal amount of apps and requires them to delete cookies and caches every other day. So, now I guess I just wait with my half-functioning phone until they can figure out what is wrong???

I am having the exact same issue. I can send text messages perfectly fine. I can receive and send emails fine. Making calls and receiving calls also works fine. I just cannot receive text messages. I also had the low memory icon for a while, and did some research on it. It appears that this is caused by the gingerbread update 2.3.4. I never had any issues like this before that update. The weirdest part is that I did not have the issues imediately after the update, so my phone after the update was perfectly fine for about a week or two. It appears that we are not the only ones having these issues also, because in many google searches it appears that everyone that has the original incredible that has received the update to 2.3.4 is have at least the low space issue. Please Verizon do something to fix this. Even if it is not directly your fault, I feel as a cell phone carrier, you should take more action than just telling end users to clear their cache, uninstall apps, or reset their phone. Maybe some action such as helping HTC get word of the problem to fix it if it is on their level, or even if it is on the google level. Although I think if that were the case every phone with 2.3.4 would have the same issues, so that leads me to believe that it is an HTC issue for this specific piece of hardware.

I also am having the same issue. After speaking with a technical support person for an hour the issue still hasnt been resolved. He suggested going ahead and replacing it, but since my screen is cracked the manufacturer possibly would charge me 200 and send my phone back. i am going to the store tomorrow & seeing if in the store they can do something to fix my phone! I did get credited for text messaging on my account for the next two months so even if they cant fix the problem right now, they possibly can credit your account until they fix the issue. Hope they get this issue fixed because up until now I really loved my Incredible!

I am having the same exact problems. I had the low storage icon that kept coming up. So I did a restore on the phone, wiped out everything, ever since I have not been receiving text messages. I went to a local store, and they said to call tech support. Not sure if I really want to spend half my day doing that. I will if I get the time.

How does that work with replacing your phone though anyways? Did the tech guys say they would replace it for free? In your case I see why you would have to pay since your screen is cracked, but I do not think we should have to pay for a new phone if we decided to get our phones replaced. I had no problems before this, and I do not think we should pay money to fix a problem that was not caused by us as the end users. I would like however to upgrade to the Incredible 2, for many reasons, but none of them are because of the experiences with the Incredible 1. I have loved this phone and have had it for well over a year now. I do not have an upgrade until early next year though. I think that Verizon needs to work with HTC or Google to get this problem fixed, depending on where the problem originated. OR they need to give everyone experiencing this problem an upgrade to the Inc 2.

I had the same problem. I called Verizon's help line and went through a series of attempts which did not fix it. That person connected my to tech support who knew exactly how to fix it. She had me type in a url into my browser, which downloaded a patch to my phone. After restarting it, not only did my text messaging work, but all the texts I hadn't received came in too!

Any way that you can post said link? Or maybe a support number from your call to get a hold of the same person? MAybe you have the url stil lin your browsers history?

Thanks to the community for responding. I can understand having this problem. I had an incredible and would get the same error.

This issue has been already reported to our product team. As an alternate work around clearing cache is the safest method. The issue is triggered when the device has low memory (lower than 512KB in data memory). You can erase cache and data of most used applications like Facebook, NFL, etc as these applications store lot of cache as a backup to launch faster. Deleting cache from most of applications will make room for applications and mail to run smoothly. You can always move applications to SD card to keep room in application memory.

We are working on making some enhancements in software to minimize the impact of low memory issue. All these changes should be seen in next software update. Release date is not finalized yet. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Why is it that you people are being so incompetent about this? That is not a solution for the actual problem we are having. I can personally guarantee you that every single person in this thread is not having this issue because of a cache buildup. None of us ever had this problem until the 2.3.4 OTA push. Its not like we all said hey look Android 2.3.4, And installed 500 new apps with widgets and browse 100 times more so that our memory would be overloaded. I do not and will not accept this as an answer to the problem. It is obviously some kind of software bug. I write software for a living and I know a bug when I see one. Everyone has tried your solution, and it does not work. Why would a buildup of data that had been there before the update that never caused this, all of a sudden cause it now? And why would that buildup of data all of a sudden override the ability to receive text messages? Simply it wouldn't. All that everyone posting here is asking, is that you guys fix the actual problem in the updated Android Package. And another thing, Apparently, according to laceym5 there already is a patch somewhere on your guys' server that will fix this issue. Why is it that you guys can't just post this link somewhere where all people having issues can get to it?

I can't believe this is happening. I am having the EXACT same issue with my incredible. After the update I got the low storage message even though I have only used about one quarter of the space on my phone. The people at the verizon store said the only way to get rid of it was a factory reset, so I finally caved and did it last night and now I can't get ANY texts. What's so hard about just giving us the patch URL so we can get this working again?

The tech people are now telling me that the only solution is to replace my phone with an incredible 2. This is ridiculous and I'm honestly looking at switching services right now.

To everyone experiencing this issue please believe me when I say I understand how inconvenient this issue has been for you all. I'm always texting on my phone and would be upset as well if I were unable to receive text messages.

HTC has reported that since the MR4 update (Software Version 4.06.605.3) a limited number of customers reported trouble receiving text messages after completing the upgrade. Unfortunately, the only solution is to have your phone replaced. If your phone is still under the 1 year manufacturer's warranty or if you purchased the 2 year extended warranty we will replace your phone with a Certified Like-New Incredible 2 at no cost to you. This can only be done through Customer Service and would be shipped to you.

So Liz, where did you get this "unofficial" fix from HTC? I've been searching everywhere on their site and CANNOT find it! This is frustrating! HELP ME.............

Found this on Droidforums.net. Worked so far on my Inc, but not on friends Inc. It's a patch that needs to be installed manually. Save to Sdcard. Make sure unknown sources are checked in Apps section of settings and need a file manager like Astro to do so.

I am having the same issues too. Was on the phone with HTC for 30 minutes and Verizon for even longer with no solution. Since I purchased thru Best Buy I went to their support and found the it is the Gingerbread Update. How did Verizon not know about this when I called? They say not a technical issue with the phone hardware but a carrier issue thru Verizon. I ended up getting a loaner phone and Geek Squad sent out my phone but know there is not issue with the phone but the carrier. Please please please Verizon-- do something to correct this issue or we will all switch to a diff service provider!!! :smileysad:

Just wanted to explain what the low storage is all about. On our phones there are four types of storages

- App Storage : This is where your apps get installed. We have 748MB of this.

- Phone Memory: This is where physical files etc is stored (e.g. photos music etc etc). We have 6.6GB of this.

- SD Card: This is the physical micro SD card that you can insert. Upto 32gb is possible. With this we can install apps here if the App Storage is running low (thats the 748MB one). Also photos, application configuration files etc etc is also stored here.

- Application Data Storage: This is where all the apps can store non-user data like caching, internal configs, etc etc. We only have 149MB of this. This one is the culprit when you get the low storage message.

Application Data Storage explained: Most of the apps that we install use this area of the storage for their internal purposes. The reason is that this storage is only available to the app itself and is secure. So if you installed Facebook and configured facebook with your username and password. That info is stored in the Application Data Storage. A lot of apps like the browser, video apps etc etc also use this area for better performance and personal preferences. For example if you had a lot of bookmarks, they are being stored here. You browser history is also being stored here. So over time, this area of the phone gets filled up as you keep using your apps.

Just an explanation of what's causing the problem. The phone is not crappy, but simply needs some house cleaning from time to time. For example, on my friends phone contacts storage (where all phone contacts are stored) was getting to about 50 mb. Due to this there was'nt enough room for the new 2.3.4 update to get installed. In his case all his contacts were synced either via exchange or google. So I simply cleared data on contacts storage. This allowed the contact storage to be rebuilt and the new size is much less than before. If you store contacts directly on the phone, then make sure that you have synced them via backup assistant before clearing data on contacts storage!

The patch did not work for me. There was a new update I installed yesterday. Would that have any effect on this patch?

I to am disgusted with how poorly the big V is handling this issue as well as any other support issues that arise that are not caused by user error, but by simply receiving an OTA update. How ridiculous is it to force someone that is innocent to have to pay for a new phone when it isnt even their fault!

Anyway, rant over! I installed the Hotfix and am happy to announce that I am receiving texts once again. I have had the 2.3.4 update for a while now and just last night stopped receiving texts. So whatever the issue is, VERIZON and HTC better get in gear and FIX IT PROPERLY!

Remember Rome? It thought it would never fall. Arrogance and lack of respect for those who make you powerful will be your downfall if you dont change your ways big V.

I was having this problem all of a sudden out of nowhere. I tried this patch and rebooted and then received all my previously unreceived texts. Seems to have fixed the problem.

Maybe a stupid question, but after installation of the patch, can I go back and uncheck the allow non-market... box?

so, I thought this was all a thing of my past, but I missed another text last night. Is there a way to find out if the text messages are just not getting to my phone, or if they are not even getting to the network? I am so frustrated. I have moved everything I can think of to the SD card, thinking that maybe the error about running out of space was causing me to not receive data. The error is not showing up now, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on my ability to receive texts. I can not even log into FB without the error coming up, even after I force (what I think are) non-essential apps closed, but that's just another part of my annoyance with this phone right now.

What is plan G, H, I, or whatever?

My droid incredible is NOT receiving texts, I can send but NOT receive! This is about to drive me nuts. I tried to download the hotfix lin and it didn't work. Last time I had this issue it worked and now it's not! PLEASE HELP! I don't know what else to do!

My phone is under the 2 year protection agreement... if i dont get it replaced im switching to iphones cause their costumer service is legit! buddy of mine broke his phone (entirely his fault) and replaced it for free! twas nuts!

My phone has stopped receiving all text messages as of today! I have endured the same problems with this phone as many others have had with the low memory. Even with very few apps loaded on this phone, I am constantly erasing caches and data from the few apps I do have to even be able to use this phone...and still the low memory issue is a problem. Now on top of it all, my text messages are not being received!!!! I am eligible for an early upgrade now because I'm the primary on my account but I won't receive my add'l customer loyalty discount until June...I can't continue using this phone like this until then. I read back on this thread and see that there was at one time a hotfix for this issue but as of today, this link does not work. Does anyone have the solution to this problem...I will try anything. I do have insurance on my phone but I'm not sure if it will cover a problem like this. And even if it does, I don't think I should have to pay the $90.00 deductible for a problem that appears to be related to an update. Someone help!!!!

manufactures don't always share things with the carrier. That's why if your device is broken and its not a service issue you should call them not vzw
