Droid X issues

I have a droid X and after the Gingerbread updates the phone is acting terrible times the phone will go blank,the apps never load and contacts are messed up.Is there going to be an additional update to this gingerbread.Also when downloading an app it will show it loading two time and sometimes three.I called Verizon and like usual the answer always is a hard reset which is more trouble than its worth.Is there anyway to get this fixed.How can a top end phone thats suppose to up there with the Iphone has so many issues.

Harveyd: I know you said That Verizon told you a Factory reset Will help an you said its more than what it's worth. But Actually it will help because it gives Gingerbred a clean platform to be on an Verizon Teck services can help assisst you when doing this reset or you can follow these instruction here an do it youself.

I used this method here when i done my Reset before installing Gingerbred on my X.

But you have to do these steps exactly as it states here an then you should'nt have any of the issues you descibed. Give these steps a try an see if they work for ya. let us know the resolts. if they worked or not.

Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.

1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy

2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone

3. After reset is complete only Active Phone >*228 option 1 but do not input Google Email information

4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"

5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.

This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.

I really cant say this enough, I do not know why so many place iPhone on this imaginary podium, I have owned one and I really wasn't impressed with the restrictions of the OS and I experienced my device lockup a number of times, so its not as perfect as some think .... And I am so amazed how limited the users of this device knows about it. Android users do not want to reset because they have the belief that it is not needed because the iPhone updates without doing this, this is a incorrect assumption, the phone is wiped before every software update but the only thing that is different is that their update process reinstall settings and apps after update from iTunes backup file..

The option is to have a open OS are be tethers to a computer and preparatory software like iTunes to backup and restore your device data, its hard to have both. At this point there is no winning solution but comparing two different OS isn't going to find you a answer.

I for one hate hearing the response "factory reset" but it`s absolutely true. I guess you could say it eliminates the ghost in the machine. Crap that lingers from a previous build into the new one that shouldn`t be there in order for the update process to be done successfully.

Think of it this way... on our home pc`s how many times does a box pop up after you have installed new software or hardware asking you to reboot because there could be files in use that need to be shut down in order for the process to complete. The droid x is in many ways just like a home pc but it doesn`t have the full capability like a home pc or even a laptop does.

With that said here`s where i differ in opinion from most posters. I firmly believe that it`s not google`s gingerbread software update that have caused some users issues. I believe it`s motorola`s fault and theirs alone. Google designed gingerbread but motorola took that update and introduced what i refer to as gingerblur. Why else would the same apps work on a competitors phone such as an evo but create problems on the x and vice versa. They`re both running gingerbread. The only difference is the OS.

I`m lucky enough to have the same phone that i purchased the day after release. I have never experienced a hardware failure. A few software glitches and have done my share of resets. Gone into a verizon store seeking support but only being offered a replacement for what i believed to be a software issue and didn`t want to run the risk of getting a good as new replacement. A certified replacement is no different than wiping the phone yourself if your only problem is software related.

Spent many hours on other forums and thats when i truly understood the potential of this phone. It`s an outstanding device and i`m glad to know i have one of the best phones currently available.

Actually you pointed out a number of good points and I agree that the manufactor does play a card on the incompatible issues that plague a number of diffrent devices, the UI can cause issues as well because they are adding something not originally designed for the OS. This is one of the major diffrences per devices that could explained one device having issues and others working fine.

Galaxie i'd say you have a firm leg to stand on that one. An if ones can remember Verizon sent back the OS the first time to Motorola because they did'nt like something in it. But on the second round they accepted it.

And so far i've had only minor issues. A little griping from this old Codger but i'll get over it :smileyvery-happy:

actually google does have a backup similiar to apple`s it`s just that almost every post stating that a factory reset should be performed is followed with instructions stating to uncheck google backup thereby erasing all user info stored on google servers including the list of apps the user had on their phone before the system restore was performed.

if you go to the motorola site you will find in their forums and if you call a VZ technician they will (should if they're being honest) tell you that there are major problems with the GB update with the Droid X. Don't believe the hype from some of the Droid X worshippers in this forum: the factory reset doesn't always clear the trouble. I'm living proof. Can't tell you how frustrating it is to have so many troubles with a phone that I can't replace (without paying a fortune) until 2013. The VZ tech today told me that SHE has a Droid X and HER's works fine! Doesn't help any of the scores of us that are still having some major problems with OUR'S! Good luck to you
