Can any one tell me how to turn this on with in the samsung Stratosphere phone as the new operating system seems to be locking us into gmail if we need this to happen
What do you mean? If you you mean POP just download K9, touchdown, or any of the email apps in the market.

I can help you with setting up email on the Stratosphere.
Android devices do require a Gmail account in order to access the Market. I would recommend going to Http://www.gmail.com and setting up a Gmail account first, then you can add your other email address. You can utilize many different email accounts on the Stratosphere.
