Thinking of changing to Verizon Prepaid

Hello, I am currently using another service, but very much interested in Verizon.. I have a few questions I have not been able to find answers for on this site. How much is the activation fee for a prepaid phone? When I purchase my prepaid phone from Verizon, do I pay for a plan at that time and do I get a monthly bill? Sorry to sound so dazed and confused, but I have searched for these answers and am still not satisfied. Right now I add minutes to my current prepaid on line and that works best for me. I just don't want to get bamboozled by extra charges I am not aware of. I see a lot of comments on this forum from users who are not happy with different, extra charges. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Activation is normally 35 but go here for any promos.

walmart has some Verizon prepay phones right now for $19.99, $29.99 and a couple more expensive ones and they come with $10 minutes. You can add minutes online, over phone or at several different stores and gas stations.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing -- leaving my current carrier (that I've had for eight years!) to move to a Verizon Pre-paid plan. If I were to purchase the phone from Walmart, what is the best way to port my current number in to Verizon?

Hi Mark, I just changed to Verizon prepaid after being with the same carrier for 4 years, so I understand your hesitation. I did alot of research on these forums and talked to the Verizon help desk several times, before making my decision. If you had a prepaid account with another carrier and had a contract, you can port your same number. If you do not have a contract, you must select a new mobile number. This is what I had to do and I do not regret doing so. I love my new LG5500 phone and the service, which was lousy before with my old cell, is wonderful now. Verizon rocks! I say go for it. To port your phone call customer service at Verizon it does not matter if you have a contract or not. I had a pre paid from another carrier and ported my phone to verizon pre paid.

Thanks Minnie, I already purchase my new phone and new number, I must have spoke with a new Rep, I guess. She assured me I had to have a new number without the previous contract. No worries, tho. I only talk to my children for the most part. Thanks again.

I am considering doing something similar. But the only thing is that I have a phone, I travel overseas a lot, and i would like to use the same phone everywhere, as well as in the US. So, I know they don't use a SIM card. Is there any way that I can use Verizon with my international unlock phone?

Hi 88son, I am sorry I have no idea about international calls on Verizon prepaid. I do know, my son is in England right now and he has Verizon, with a contract. Instead of using his Verizon phone, he is buying international calling cards and using the public phone booths as his way of communicating with us here in the states. Verizon has an international calling plan. I would contact one of the on line Verizon reps or just call them on their 800 number. Good luck, have a great day.
