just got my HTC Eris today. omg! 3.5 hrs of usage and dead already!!!! this is crazy. i read the battery life was terrible but this is ridiculous! there's got to be a problem. & it hasnt been 3.5hrs of straight usage. did sit it down to work & eat. i've sent 14 txt msgs & browsed the web a lil. should not be dead already.

also, i have tried to download apps. it keeps saying download unsuccessful. what am i doing wrong? i've tried to search on the phone & see if there is an answer to this problem but dont see it. can someone help me?

please give me some suggestions to let this battery last longer. i read where some suggested downloading advance task killer but it wont download. what other suggestions are there to get this thing last longer. i may return it if all i can get is 3hrs a day on it & barely using it. gracious!

If you turn off GPS,Wi-Fi,and Mobile network when not in use, it will last quite a bit longer.You can still call and send and receive messages.Mine seems to last a couple days doing this.

First of all, did you get this on the web or did you go into a VZW store??

If im not mistaken, you need a GMAIL account and it must be setup on your phone in order to download apps from the Market. If you got it online, you may want to head over to the VZW store and ask for some help!!

As for the battery life, the exact same thing happened to me the first day I got it, I left the Verizon store at 1, fully charged the battery and it was dead by 8pm. You absolutely need Advanced task Killer or Adnvanced Task Manager, I have tried both and like the control and "auto kill widget" you get with Task Manager!

You must, must, must condition the battery...Charge it fully and drain it at least 3 if not 4 times! There are also several steps you can take to eliminate some of the battery draining behavior of the phone (actually the system):

1. Notifications

2. Animations

3. Wireless Controls

4. Auto backlight

I believe there is a thread here with Battery Saving information on it...

F.Y.I. Again, my first day or two was just like yours and I now get 2 full days out of a charge. Remember, this is not a PC plugged into a wall, surfing and txting and NOT killing the running Apps will kill your battery!

thanks for the suggestions. i have turned off everything related to the web. wifi, 3g..whatever. turned off any notifications. not sure about the animation. have not seen that on my phone yet or i may not know what i'm looking at. i've adjusted the backlight. i still had to charge it again today. so since i picked it up yesterday, this is my 3rd time charging it.

i was wondering about the conditioning of the battery. the owners manual only stated some phones may nd the battery conditioned but did not advise if this was one. today, is the first time it actually powered off b/c of the battery. hope i didnt mess up the conditioning. will see what happens once it's charged up.

i really like this phone so far accept i'm not able to access everything off my company website. this was the primary reason for getting this phone. we are required to use our company website to ask for time off or to work xtra hours. i needed a smartphone to do this in case i'm not accessible to a computer. well the BB's dont. i was told this phone does everything the Iphone does. my coworkers can do what we nd off our company website w/ their Iphone but it's not working on this Eris. i dont know if its a settings issue with the phone or the website. gotta figure that out.

Hey sorry for the delay...I hear what you are saying about the conditioning question but I always "err on the side of caution" and look at is as conditioning the battery won't hurt. However in the case of the ERIS I believe conditioning really helped me. The battery life improvement was clear.

The only thing I can think of in terms of the website behavior is in the way the mobile browsers behave. I notice time and again that websites (this one included) I look at on my PC are only about 75% accessible from the phone. Maybe if you could give specifics about the type of website you are trying to access, someone with more knowledge on this topic than me may have better insight.
