Can't access Yahoo email

I've had my Droid Razr Maxx for 2 weeks now and so far so good, until today. I'm getting a message for my Yahoo account "authentication error". When I put my password in it says "NO Mechanism Not Available". I didn't change my password and it's been working fine until today.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I have the same error happening - says invalid credentials. This must be a service outage with the verizon ICS.

or a problem with yahoo, can you get into the account thru www.mail.yahoo?

Yes, I've been able to access my email account through Yahoo. That was the first thing I checked.

i use it without problems because of app issues you describe & why i only have a couple apps that are the only way to get in to certain things i need to do..

Nice that they break something and then not tell anyone. Thanks for the info on the new yahoo app. It worked out fine.

any time an app isn't working right it's not a bad idea to download it again & it may resolve the problem.

yeah, but to have to download a mail app instead of what had been working perfectly is just stupid. The accounts part had been working fine until 1030 this am. Downloading an app should never be an adequate solution to what is/was working perfectly fine.

Well, the Yahoo app didn't work afterall. Now my phone is completely DEAD. I was on the phone with technical support and they couldn't get it to do a master reboot. Nothing on the phone works. They are sending me a new phone today. I've had this phone 3 weeks!!! Of course technical support said they have never seen this problem!

All, I know is that if I can't get it fixed today, I am taking this pos and getting the Galaxy S III. Motorola is freaking killing me....first the Droid Pro(Multiple botched fixes) and now the Razr Maxx.

Me too no yahoo email. authentication issues for what I know are my passwords. crappy.

Well, I am ticked that I have had to do a full factory reset on a phone less than two weeks old. This is just 100% stupid.....crap like this, despite how much I like the android platform, is crazy. I think I may go to the galaxy....am severely tired of motorola crap....email seems to be back, but come on, a full factory reset?

I totally agree! I'm getting a new Razr Maxx tomorrow and if I have these issues again, I'm switching to an IPhone. I had to argue with Verizon to ship overnight so I wouldn't have to go the weekend without a phone. Can you believe that!!! My gut is telling me that I won't have my phone tomorrow though.

I did a complete factory reset. Thus far, it has worked properly....However, a full factory reset on a phone that is less than two weeks old is totally unacceptable! I have the Razr Maxx as well.

it depends on you & how many apps you downloaded that may have had issues, that the factory reset fixed because it eliminated all of them & you had a clean slate again.

Yahoo has had this problem for YEARS. Even on my old Moto Q in 2007 i would go just fine for months and then boom, authentication error on the built-in email client. Had to do resets, or manually configure ports to get it working again. Same authentication denials with the HTC Email app on my DInc. Finally gave up fighting with it and downloaded Yahoo app. It's ok, updates too frequently and now has banner ads in it but fine, whatever.

I'm thinking what is happening is that Yahoo doesn't like their stuff being "pulled" by built-in email apps and want their own "push" type app used for revenue generation. So they have crawlers out searching for non yahoo app server access on phones and over time, de-authenticate them deliberately. As in all things capitalist, it's all about the money.

Same issue...unacceptable!!! I have the same problem with gmail and Aol!!! "invalid credentials". Tried everything still NG!!! It worked the same way for seven months it should continue to work that way!!!

It's not the phone; it's the <Deleted> network. I had this problem from day 1 with my POS Samsung Charge purchased a year ago. All at once both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts would start throwing up authentication errors at the same time. Putting in their respective passwords would just cause additional authentication errors. I finally developed a pseudo-solution; I used my computer to change my account passwords, and then used the new passwords to log into my accounts with the next "authentication error" prompts on the phone. That suppressed further authentication errors...until several weeks later. Needless to say it was <Deleted> off to have to continually change passwords. After several months I finally figured out there was a pattern to the issue. The authentication error plague would always occur 3-4 days before Verizon announced another round of new 4G city additions. To this day I still get the authentication errors on my phone, subsequently followed by me muttering a string of very colorful obsenities about Verizon's 4G network. I just used my last upgrade on a Razr Maxx hoping that the device would be immune to this particular issue, but it sounds as if that's not the case. :smileysad:

Now, because I can't sign onto my g-mail account, I can't access the Play Store...no access to apps!!! Does Verizon monitor this forum? Is so where are they!!!???...

Cady...your theory about it happening around the time they add/expand the 4G network is spot on...however the resetting of my passwords on my PC didn't work for me, thanks anyway...Where is Verizon!!!???

Temporary fix from another forum... go to settings,,,Accounts...Add account...Email Accounts icon...Other icon..fill in your account info!!! Doesn't fix the push notifications from the original accounts but I now get my AOL and g-mail notifications and updates through the original messaging app and because i can sign into my g-mail accounts the Play Store app works again!!!

Just got a RAZR four days ago , stock mail worked fine with yahoo , then on the same day you have the problem , i did too! same issue exactly ! i just decided to not use the stock email app and dl'ed yahoo mail - works great! as far as the stock email app , I have no idea why it does'nt work anymore.....

...Verizon is around. The Verison Mod altered my post and gave me a friendly reminder to "Please keep your posts family friendly". Seriously? P-U-L-E-A-S-E!!! Dear Mod those deleted words weren't even close to vulgarities. The term da*n means "to bring run on". The term pi**ed means "irritated". Both are in the Meriam-Webster dictionary where any "family" member can view them....look 'em up. >:/

Cady just to let you it doesn't matter how you spell those type of words on here there are words that are in the Bible that are at times looked Upon in the Post. It is not only Policed by the Mobs but by the Contributors as well So if they see it and it offenses them they will blow the Whistle..Just a friendly a Reminder..b33

I agree. I couldn't add the Yahoo acount because of "invalid credentials" but when I added it as an "Other" account it worked. I can't see any functional difference between adding the Yahoo acount as a "Yahoo" account or an "Other" account. Now both Yahoo and Gmail sync properly and their messages show up in the combined inbox.

I was directed by tech support to download an email app K9 until Motorola fixes the bug. It worked.

This past week I could not access my Yahoo account either. (I have the HTC Rhyme) I kept getting "your account needs authentication". I could not find anywhere to re-input my password so I decided it must be glitch. I "deleted" my yahoo account by going to "settings" then to "accounts & sync" , scrolled down to Yahoo and touched that. Then came up a choice to "sync now" or "remove account". So I touched "remove account".

Then went back to my first screen which still showed my "mail" icon. Touched that and up came a sign in. I typed in my email address and password. That took care of it!! . As a previous chatter said, maybe you just need to get the new Yahoo app. I figured if I deleted my old account and signed up again, it would give me the new Yahoo. Not sure if it did or not, but my phone is receiving mail once again. Hope that helps for the future.
