When trying to sync my calender to/from phone, it wants to sync to an Outlook mail account. I do not have account. Can I set one up with my verizon wireless phone number?
An Android phone wants to sync with an Outlook account? Usually it wants to have a gmail address/account. Which you will need to access many of the Google App including Market and Google Talk.
Also which phone model do you have?

I did set up my gmail account with Outlook Express. Thank You! Now I need to set it up on my Thunderbolt HTC Android/

Lets make sure your Outlook calendar is setup the way that you need it! As you stated you have your Outlook Express synced with your Gmail account. When you setup the phone did you add that same Gmail account to it? If you skipped that step during activation you can easily get this updated.
Press Menu
Press Settings
Press Accounts & sync
Press Add Account
Choose Google
Enter e-mail address and password
Once the account is setup you will be given sync options of which Calendar should be present. If you were looking to sync Outlook directly, this is typically completed through a company e-mail server. In order to complete this setup you would have to work with your companies IT department to get the Exchange Server information. I would be happy to help with any other concerns, if needed.
