Using Razr with a USB Hub

I have fried two USB hubs (a 5 yr old Belkin High Seed 7-port and a brand new one 4-port higher speed from Staples) before realizing that the power draw of the Razr is too high for most of the commonly used hubs on the market. What happened in eacy instance was that the Raze would mount the first time, but when I tried to mount it a second time, nothing. Also, nothing else could be mounted or work (printer, smart card reader, memory stick, etc.). The Razr Opr. Manual says that if you use a hub to connect to your computer, be sure it is "a high power hub" but gives no power requirements. Can anyone suggest a high power hub that will work with the Razr ????

I think you are mistaken about the way to connect to your computer via USB. The manual says to use a "high power USB port." A Port is not the same as a Hub. Many devices will not charge through a hub for a variety of reasons such as decreased power.

From page 48 of the Droid Razr's Users Guide:

You can connect your smartphone to a computer with a USB cable.

Note: The first time you use a USB connection, your computer may indicate that drivers are being installed.

Follow any prompts you see to complete the installation. This may take a few minutes.

1. With your smartphone showing the home screen, connect a Motorola micro USB data cable from your smartphone’s micro USB port to a USB port on your computer. Your smartphone should show in the status bar.

Note: Make sure to connect the smartphone to a high power USB port. Typically, these are located directly on your computer.

2. Drag and drop files between your computer and smartphone folders. When you’re done, use “Safely Remove Hardware” before disconnecting the USB cable.

I will make a Suggestion an that is Not to Charge that Razr from any thing Else But What Came with That is the O.E.M Charger an Cable i know it says it can be done Via the Computer but i have seen Countless of people get Burned Charging there Devices threw the Computer Port. I have had Droids for Two Years Know an BB's before that an the only thing that i Charge my Stuff with is the Charger that Came with it or Another Motorola Charger that i Bought for it..b33

You are right. I stand corrected. Thank you. I would still suggest the manual contain a warning that if you do not connect directly to your computer but try to use a hub that you will likely ruin the hub.

They Don't figure that in there as the intent on the Cable is to go Directly to the Computer With it.. or as i Mentioned the Block Charger that came with in the Box..b33

Sorry that happened to you - twice, no less! I would check your Belkin owners manual for a warning. If none exists, I would contact them about a replacement. It would seem to me that if the product has mAh limitations those should be listed and they should stand behind it if there's no such warning. Just my opinion...
