Cannot connect with Corporate Sync

Hi,

I have searched this forum and other forums and could not find a resolution that has fixed my issue with this. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the connection fails each time I try to set up my email. My organization uses the Outlook Web App, which to my understanding, I should use the Corporate Sync option for my Droid 2. I enter my email address and password -- connection fails, so I choose connect manually, which the only difference is on my screen is to input the server address. It never connects then, the applet completes about 20% and times out. Perhaps I'm not using the right server address for this. Here is the information available to me via the "About" section in my OWA online page:

I blocked out some of the information, but I have been using the "host name" listed as what I put in the field for server--had read that somewhere else in the forums. It still doesn't connect. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Hi,

Sounds like a setting issue, I'd shoot a letter to you IT department. Does anyone else have that issue at your office? If you are on a business account sometimes the feature is disabled on the account and will not work until the Account administrator for your company adds it to thier VZW account. I have had the same issue. I talked my IT guy into getting the Boss to have it provisioned on my account. :smileyhappy:

I am having the same problem on my droid 3 Mu it guys have tried it several times also. Only bought the phone to do this It worked until I had to have the phone replaced because of a warrented problem. Now no go. Would really like an answer

This can get complicated really quickly but I'll give it a go.

For Corporate Sync (ActiveSync is the REAL name)your Active Directory domain account has to have Exchange ActiveSync enabled. To do this they would:
Launch the Exchange Management Console --> Recipient Configuration --> Mailbox --> Open your mailbox(identified by your AD account name) then go to the Mailbox Features Tab and ensure that Exchange ActiveSync is enabled.

is this your first Exchange/ActiveSync capable smartphone?

Do you have SSL enabled in the connection setup?

Try going to OWA and then go to the Options link in the middle-upper right corner, when the Options button expands click see all options. Then in that screen, on the left you should see 'Phone' click on that. Are there any phones listed? If so, delete them. Restart your phone and try again.

As an aside. can you get to OWA from your phone over the cellular network?

For both granger and fredfred: There are logs on the Exchange server that will show pretty explicit error/event messages that your IT guys should be able to use to troubleshoot.

I have the Android 2.3.3 update and the only two seemingly appropriate options to use in Setup Accounts would either be the Corporate Sync or Email. I have tried them both. The first thing I see when I click on Corporate Sync are the fields to add in email, password, domain (optional), and username. I can also choose to connect manually by adding in the server name. I have tried filling in these fields, and it still will not connect. I have tried other options to fill in the server field as well such, as putting in the host name. For the "Email" route, I have to choose POP or IMAP, however when I come to the outgoing server SMTP information, my OWA "About" section did not provide that and that is not available in the See all options/Account tab. My phone will add a "place" for the account when I use Email setup, but will just say connection error when trying to look for new mail.

You'd want corporate sync.

I would populate the domain field.

The hostname may be the problem.

Here is a sanitized version of my setup :

OWA:

NO header. No /owa

is this how you're doing it?

Have you checked with your IT dept. to make certain your account is mobile enabled?

You can verify if you are using the correct configuration by going to

https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/

And then choosing Exchange Activesync and enter the settings you are using.

That will let you know if the problem is on the phone setup or on the Exchange Server side of things.

Yes. I put in the domain name like that. The applet for "Adding your Corporate Sync account" did what it did before--got about a fifth of the way completed and stopped.

I ran the test. Everything checked out except the certificate name.... not sure how to solve that so I can connect though.

Have you tried setting up the account without ssl?

Can you successfully login to OWA from your RAZR?

Check the "Accept All Certificates" box on the phone,

Are you using the Settings>Accounts>Add Account> Corporate method to setup Exchange?

Don't try to add it directly in the email application.

Can also try Moxier.com for a good Exchange App. There's a free trial.

Yes, I unchecked Use Secure Connection... same result, progress applet stalled out about a fifth of the way through, restart phone.

I can get to the OWA via the web browsing feature.

I don't have the Accept All Certificates option to un/check. The only options I have when setting up the account are Email Address, Password, Domain, Username, Server, and a check box for secure connection, which I have tried both checked and unchecked.

I've tried to add the account both ways, by going through the path you named above, and by going to Messaging>Manage Accounts>Add Account>Corporate Sync... same result.

On my Verizon Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.2, using Settings>Add Account>Corporate, on the second setup screen, there's a checkbox for "Accept All SSL Certificates". It's just below the checkbox for "Use secure connection (SSL)".

It may be hidden behind the pop-up keyboard. Make sure that both are checked. Client certificate should be none, unless your organization requires one.

No, I only have the one checkbox available to "use a secure connection." I have a Droid 2 Global with a slide keyboard so the on-screen board isn't a factor. I'm also running their 2.3.3 OS update--which I think is largely the problem for not having other options or check boxes when setting up a corporate sync account. Under Settings>Add Account>Corporate Sync I only have the option to put in Email Address, Password, Domain, and Username. If I hit the function key, I get the option to set up manually, which then gives me a field for Server and the checkbox for a secure connection.

If you are on 2.3.3, that's a fairly old Froyo build of Android. You likely need an additional app or an upgraded ROM for it to work. Sorry, out of ideas.

Sounds like maybe a certificate error...and you should have an option in your Corp Sync to verify certificates....
