EMAIL ISSUE

When I send an email which contains any word using an apostrophe such as we'll the recepient sees the following: we'll. Don't comes through as don't. Any explanation? I'm using ICS and comcast.net email without problem other than this oddity.

Are you using the stock email app on the phone?

Not sure I understand your question. When I set up the phone I set

comcast.net as my default email.

I wondered if you were using the email app that is pre-installed on the device, or if you downloaded a separate email client app, like K-9 mail.

Sorry. I'm using the email software that was on board the Razr Maxx. I have

not downloaded any email app. I'm not sure if this issue came with the

recent upgrade to ICS or whether it was present in the previous OS. I was

unaware of it until a friend asked WTH my email meant and sent me a copy of

what he had received. There were more than several words with apostrophes

and it made the email look like a coded message!

Hi, OVBill!

I'm sorry to learn the HTML code is appearing in these emails you send. I am looking further into this. I would like to know a little more information if possible. Does this happen if you send an email from Comcast only or other email account as well? Have you seen any trends like who you send to (ie Comcast to Comcast; Comcast to Gmail) etc? Please keep me posted so I can assist further!

I just sent an email containing won't, can't, don't to my comcast.net address from my Razr Maxx using my gmail account. The message was received without error on my PC. Hope this helps. As I previously mentoned my PC is a Windows 7 machine using Outlook Express. I've sent same message to a Blackberry, a Windows 7 PC using Windows Live Mail and a MAC without issue. A PC on Windows 7 and Outlook received the HTML code.

I just sent a second test to my PC from my Droid Razr Maxx.

I sent Won't, don't can't and then Don:t, can"t won;t. This is what came through. Interesting to see that it appears only the apostrophe is affected.

I'm having the same problem and it is causing me considerable amounts of distress as it is straining professional relationships!!! Verizon fix asap!!!

When i done the Test but i have Yahoo mine took a few min. to push through but the Message Came soundly with no Changes..

Having this problem as well and seemed to have gotten worse after last upgrade. Any fix on the horizon? Very embarrasing and annoying as use my Droid for corporate correspondence.

I am having the same issue.

For what it's worth, I normally send from my droid on a comcast.net email acount, however I have also tried sending on a gmail.com account, and I still get the weird characters. My latest email today had the following:

women's: women's

can't:         can't
What's:     What's
don't:         don't

Verizon- PLEASE FIX- this is really annoying eveyone I send emails to!

I downloaded and installed a new e-mail app, Droidmail, fixed the problem. Easy to install and works like a champ! Guess this is an issue with default e-mail client and nobody cares.

@jsim, I can definitely see how frustrating this must be and I'm here to help.

What Droid device do you have? Does this happen only with email or does it happen with text messages as well?

I see other community members have suggested apps that have helped them with this issue. Have you had a chance to try any of them?

You can also try removing the email account and re-adding it. Retest and keep me posted. I'll be happy to further assist you.

I downloaded Droidmail, it doesn’t have the apostrophe issue and works OK, seems to have some syncing problems but at least can conduct business correspondence. Too bad that such a simple issue couldn’t be resolved…Finding Droid great overall just has little quirks that drives one crazy!

I have a Razr Maxx. The issue occurs only in emails. Text messages go through as typed. I have removed and re-added my comcast.net account without affecting the issue.When I used my gmail account the same problem occurs.

I have hesitated to add any of the sugested apps since I'm concerned that other attributes might be affected.

My phone shows the following system information:

Android Version 4.0.4

System Version 6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US

The only work around I use is to avoid any contracted words such as; don't, can't, won't etc.

How did these come through to your device? That is the other issue - some emails go through as typed while others receive the html code. I thought I had isolated the problem to Windows Outlook but it appears to be more widespread than only Outlook since a few Apple users and Live Mail users have reported back to me that they have received the html code (if that's what this is!).

It's Frustrating and Embarrassing if I forget to change the way I would normally write and eliminate the ' apostophe's.

I downloaded DroidMail app, which fixes that problem. It seems to have some issues syncing, but overall much better. Figure better to err on side of writing readable e-mails!

Same thing from my Live account. Regardless of font size or style. Email gestures on/off. Came in screwy to my gmail account, Outlook/Exchange account and outlook web access. On phone and on workstation.

I'm going to Try sending some of those Test on my Maxx and see if they reproduce the Same thing.. but i have same feeling smash they need to do a F.D.R...clear the clutter in there device. b

Yeah but they're reporting it occured out of the box - ICS didn't fix it or cause it.

Based on a fairly extensive Google search, this issue has been around as far

back as late 2010- early 2011 and appears non exclusive to any particular

device. This would seem to point at a bug in the Android code and therefore

not an issue that would be cleared by an FDR. The real question is why,

given Android/Google's standing in the tech world an issue like this hasn't

been resolved long before this?

On the two Test i done i had Zero Issues ) i was using Yahoo for my Test.! You might need to change your settings on your Comcast Email when on your P.C. Like how sends the messages out as there might be a setting that needs to changed give that a Look..

Smash: K Bill.. i don't know Man it's crazy how one thing works for one and not for another.. Just like when i go on the Web and want to Do a Search and i clearly say the Word like droid life and it comes out Droid Life and it then the system kicks it out and i have to start all over and i have done everything till i'm blue in the Face to fix it. and the only way to fix it is by using a total different Keyboard..

I too am finding this problem very embarrassing and frustrating. I am using the email program my Verizon Droid Razr MAXX came with, and after upgrading to ICS the "'" popped up. It happens when I send from the phone, whether I send using a gmail account or POP account (comcast or no-name). Looks fine on the phone when I send it. But when people reply to my messages I can see the "'" all over the place in my original message when I view it on the PC -- but viewed on my phone it looks fine. And people have been asking me about the weird characters in my emails.

I've searched numerous forums and one said that Android has figured it out but isn't releasing a fix until the next upgrade. Aargh. And I've seen many postings that all the things Verizon suggests (reset the phone, re-install email, etc.) don't help. I use a 3rd-party software to sync to my Outlook so don't want to go to a different email app for the phone.

So ANY ideas how to deal with this, and/or get Verizon's attention without wasting my time doing a re-set (again) for this problem?

I've all but given up having tried a few work arounds and decided that the

best way is to go "old school" by avoiding any contraction when I send

emails from my Razr Maxx. ICS didn't solve the issue and I'm waiting for the

promised Jelly Bean due this quarter.

Verizon sent me to Google who sent me to Motorola (same corporation!) who

sent me back to Google - you get the idea.

I have the same issue. Purchased my phone back in August 2012, and has done it ever since. Very Very Frustrating!!! For a phone that is top of the line, iphone might be my next choice.

Has there been any resolution to this mess? I have a business I'm running with all of employees having the Droid Razor Maxx, and ALL have this issue. We have our phones synced to outlook/godaddy, and it happens every time!

Come on Verizon, fix this issue. This tread started way back, and for a company of your size, this is not the first time you've heard about this issue.

Jelly Bean downloaded last week and the first thing I did was run a check of

the email. Problem solved! Contractions now go through correctly.

Jelly Bean is the Android OS update replacing the Ice Cream Sandwich OS. It

is Android version 4.1.2 and was uploaded to my Razr Maxx last week.

Do I find this at under the app store/play store? I see Jelly Bean Launcher and Jelly Bean Keyboard. Are any of these it, and does it automatically replace the current stuff I have on my phone? You can tell how technology savy I am...

The Jelly Bean Operating System is an Over the Air (OTA) update that is pushed out in waves. You'll receive a notification on your phone when it's available. You can manually check by going to System Settings > About Phone > System Updates. Ensure that your phone is fully charged before downloading the update.

First I assume you have a Razr or Razr Maxx. If that is the case then you

should receive a txt message telling you that Jelly Bean is ready for you to

upload. Follow the instructions and the new OS will upload then install. You

can find out what OS you have by clicking on the menu -then systems - about

phone and look for what Android Version you have, Jelly Bean is 4.1.2

Good luck. If your phone is not a Razr or Razr Maxx I'm not sure when the

upgrade to Jelly Bean is scheduled. These two are supposed to be upgraded by

end of Q1.
