Samsung Stratosphere will not access Google docs

Very often my phone does not access my docs & I get the message "OOPS-UNABLE TO ACCESS DOCUMENT...CONNECTION TO SERVER UNSUCCESSFUL..." This happens in my house where the wireless connection to the internet is very robust. Am I correct in assuming that my phone connects through my wireless when I'm home? I live in Washington UT (84780) & this problem occurs often. I wonder is maybe the 4G service here is not good. This reliability is so bad that I can't rely on the phone for shopping lists, appointments etc which is the main reason I got it.

Is there anything I can do to deal with this?

I found your answer very informative. FYI: About 15 min or so after my connection difficulty, it suddenly worked. This has been the pattern for some time: Unable to connect then connection successful. The salesman at Costco told me that they "were working" on the 4G service in this area. Fair enough, but this is my first smart phone so it's hard to distinguish between user inexperience & faulty service. I checked the "wi-fi settings check boxes & my Lynksys router was connected. However, that was several hours after the incident, when I got your email so I don't know if it was connected when i wrote in.

Your information has been very helpful to me because I now know that my wireless SHOULD be kicking in when I'm home. The question is, do I have to activate it or is it automatic? Next time it happens I'll check it out.

I don't know if overall connectivity is the issue with this. Are you able to access other Websites when you can't access Google docs?

Regarding wireless, I don't know if that connection is made automatically or not. My impression is that 4G is the default, and that you have to tell it to go to wireless instead. If you go to the Home page and then touch Menu - Settings - Wireless & Networks - Wi-Fi settings, there are checkboxes to turn it on, and to have it scan for WiFi networks and notify you when one is available. It may be that you have to let it detect the network and then give it permission to log on. But I've found that doing so at my house is a very speedy process -- when I say yes, the Stratosphere logs on and connects to my wireless very quickly, providing a good, solid connection. This worked well for me during some of the notorious nationwide 4G outages in December. (Except for the time that a car hit a light pole and knocked out our power during a 4G outage, but I don't think that was Verizon's fault. :smileyhappy: )

You have to manually connect using wi-fi. One of the other responders gave the instructions on how to do it or undo it. Depending on the wi-fi signal strength, using wi-fi can use more battery than the VZW network.
