my friend ditched his vzw acount and went with a different company.. wants to sell me his droid x2.. i know he owes money but is there any way possible that vzw will let me use the phone or is it just another brick now?
Devices aren't tied to any account in particular. Reactivate the phone under your line of service by dialing *228.
Edit: This is completely wrong xD See below.

Actually they are. If an account is closed and not paid, the phones can not be used elsewhere until the bill is paid
Is this a recent phenomenon? I've transferred devices from accounts that have been abandoned before, and the transfer worked fine.
Update: Thanks for letting me know I was wrong budone. I looked into it a bit more and yeah, ESNs are totally tied to each device. I'm not sure how I was able to activate a device from a suspended account in the past, but whatever.
when i use the online esn tool it says the phone is eligible for activation but when i use *228 0r the online device change it says it cannot be processed at this time .. also i sentt an email it said esn not clear... but why does the verizon website esn tool say it is?
my question really is this.. i know they attach the esn to a bad acount. i mean forget going grean verizon lets cover the earth with cellphones from verizon drop outs why att i can change the sim and use the thing... i like verizon. ALOT.. now the question is :is there anything i can do about the esn.. legally?
No. If an ESN is on a carrier's "bad" list, there's absolutely nothing you can do while it remains on that list. Legally, anyway.
If you can get your friend to pay his unpaid bill they will release the device for activation but this is the only legal method that would work..
freek i pay my 140.00 bill every month this is why i cant buy the thing brand new for 500.00... guess im going refurbished :smileysad: his <word filter avoidance> phone is like brand new too...

If they are a friend, they are not prepared to resolve the issue and refund your cash??? I have seen DX2 going for 120.00 - 220.00 on Craiglist, this is something you can consider if your finances can not cover a device at full retail price.
