Ringtones and email notifications!

I just got the droid razr yesterday (it's also my first smartphone) and I can't figure out how to get ringtones! My husband has a plain phone and sent me ringtones but when I open them they play the music but there is nothing under options saying use as ringtone. I have no music downloaded on my phone at all to use. Also I keep getting notifications every time I get a new email in my yahoo account. I want to keep yahoo on my phone but I don't want all the notifications every time i get mail cuz most of it is junk! Thanks!!!!!!

If you long press the ringtone it should give you a list of options you can then go one of two ways. Option one is "set as" and then choose ringtone. Option two (what I usually do) is to save then, using your computer (plug your phone in via USB) or a file manager app from the market, create a folder named media, then inside that, folders named ringtones, notifications, and alarms and move the file to the appropriate place (it should be in a folder named download originally). It should now show up in the list when you go to set a ringtone in the normal way.

There may be an option to show the notification without a sound or there may be a "silent ringtone". If not, you should be able to find a silent ringtone online and set it in the way I described above. You may also be able to set it to check less often or only when you open the mail app.
