You cant use Google Nav but you can install apps like TomTom or Garmin software that has its maps stored on the sd card..

It was something along the lines of GPS on the phone doesn't work without a data connection. Which is true if the person is needing download map updates as they travel.
I pointed out that the GPS radio is not dependant on a data connection to work. The application GPS Test can get a GPS lock with a deactivated SIM removed in airplane mode Thunderbolt.
