Contacts...

Due to having several email accounts and Google (gmail) linked to my phone, my contacts are rather messed up.

My question is, how do I or can I wipe out all of the contacts on my phone and then reload them if they are linked to my gmail account? I have them all backed up on gmail (i think)

Also, at one point I linked my facebook contacts to the phone to and now I cannot get rid of them.....how do I do that?

These are all helpful suggestions. I have just a few suggestions on syncing. I always recommend fixing the contacts in 1 sync source on the web and making that the only sync source on the phone. When people have multiple sync sources, they are more likely to get duplicates, triplicates, etc.

I would remove the extra Gmail accounts first. Settings> Accounts> Touch and hold on the account and choose remove.

There are a few Gmail functions that you may find useful:

1) Gmail Import/Export contacts process.

2) Fix duplicate contacts within Gmail.

You probably want to make the main contact list on the Gmail account that you set up the phone with (the one you can't remove unless you master reset the phone). You may also get a bunch more duplicates in Gmail when exporting/importing to one account. Once all of the info is in there (as messed up as it may seem), use the fix duplicates option to clear a lot of them out. You may have to also do some manual contact management too.

Once everything is fixed, you can add the other Gmail accounts. Be sure to disable the contacts syncing under Settings> Accounts> Uncheck contacts. That way they won't duplicate again.

I think you can go into your phone's setup and turn off the sync to Facebook. You can go out to your gmail account on a computer and clean up your contacts. Turn off your phone's sync to gmail while you do this. Then delete all your phones contacts or just the ones you don't want and then turn the gmail sync back on. I think that will take care of it.

I just wish there was a way to start all over since it is all saved to my gmail contacts. In my contacts for instance, each name has like 3-4 icons next to it for like gmail, phone, etc...

I just upgraded my phone yesterday. In preparation for that, I went out to contacts on gmail using my computer and cleaned up the list. Like you, some of the contacts had more than one entry, so I spent some time combining those into a single entry for each contact. I have 192 contacts, so it took a while. Now, the contacts on my new phone are correct with no duplicates, etc.
