HTC Rezound OTA killing battery life/phone not sleeping

yesterday (1/31) my Rezound got an OTA update and ever since then my battery life has absolutely tanked.

all of a sudden, since the update, Verizon Location Agent runs constantly and forcing it to stop doesnt preventing it from just randomly coming back up, and thats without even touching or using the phone at all. this app/service is preventing my phone from sleeping. in about 3-4 hours i can go from a full 100% battery to it beeping at me at 9%.

please forward this info to someone higher up in the company so we can get this fixed, preferably with a way to flat out remove the Verizon Location Agent as it is not needed and is only causing problems.

the internet is filled with forums with TONS of people reporting the exact same thing. its not the battery, its not the phone. its the VLA.

Same here! My phone was absolutely perfect before the update. Now my battery is draining super fast. I am also having severe overheating problems. Last night my phone went to 122 degrees!!! Not safe!!! My phone is super flaky now! Not only do I have the Verizon Location Agent running constantly (whatever that is??) but now My Verizon Mobile runs automatically trying to get me to pay my bill days before it is due and will not let me do anything - not even make a call!!! If I was late maybe that would be understandable but as is it is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!. I have been a customer for 5 years or more with no payment problems.

Can we get a support forum please!!!!!!!!!!! IS ANYONE OUT THERE LISTENING?!?!?!? Phones are delayed and delayed and delayed for "TESTING" but did anyone TEST this crappy update?!? Don't want to hear the "..this is HTC..." dodge. Obviously Verizon made Verizon specific changes! Please support the phone that I purchased (not leased), paid a lot of money for and will continue to pay a lot of money for over the next 2 years! A frustrated, disappointed and getting very angry customer here but who cares!?!

Is the battery the only issue. How is your signal strength. I have read on the htc forums that the signal strength is also been affected by this update.I want to buy an htc Rezound but if it's having this issue I do not.At least at this time anyway. B33

my signal strength has been unaltered. my only issue is the VLA killing my battery.

I personally haven't had this issue, but from reading, it sounds like you can go to the market, search for Verizon Location Agent and try to update it. It will kick back with a non-compatible error and disable the app. More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468704

I also experienced battery life cut in half after ota update and I couldn't select my ADW EX launcher as default anymore. I fixed the launcher by reinstalling and and getting a home switcher app and clearing the default launcher setting. With that said, I tried installing juice defender to manage battery better but phone was still dead after 5-6hrs on battery (yes, it was getting hot but it didn't feel to the extreme some of your are discussing).

I was holding out for the 30 day return period before rooting the phone, but since the battery was so pathetic, and people who had rooted and were running custom roms, didn't have this battery problem, I decided to start down that path. I got as far as using the HTC process to unlock the phone, at which point I was forced to to a factory reset. It got too late that night and I decided to complete the rooting later. 3 days later, I still haven't rooted it because i had other emergencies (house furnace is almost dead), but I'm SO EXCITED to report that since doing this factory reset, my battery life has skyrocketed back to normal, maybe even better then it was originally! I can easily unplug in the morning around 9AM and WITHOUT recharging it still had 36% battery last night around midnight. All 3 of the location services on my phone are enabled. 4G and wifi used throughout the day, had about 4 phone calls, checked facebook once, checked gmail a few times, did 2 web searches and texted throughout the day as needed.

So, if you're outside your return period and you loved your rezound before the ota update, it may not be the most desired thing to do, but if you factory reset your phone, you can get the good battery life back again!

Unfortunately, that is usually the best answer when having problems after an update.
