I have been trying for days now to get Verizon to give me a consistent answer on how tethering works, and especially related to current double data offer. I have no intention of becoming a customer if V can't tell me what the rules are. I visited my local store, and they knew even less than I did. Very frustrating!
Most recently, below is what I received in an email. The "separate data limits" for phone vs. tethering seem absolutely contradictory to the way the data plans are being portrayed in V marketing materials. And it this is correct, I cannot imagine how anyone would ever sign up. (And maybe this is why so many root their phones??) Anyway, here is what I was told:
Mobile Broadband Connect offers 2 gigabytes (GB) / 2,048 megabytes (MB) of data usage for Internet browsing, e-mail and intranet access, downloading, uploading or streaming of audio/video and VoIP for $20.00 per month. If you exceed the designated 2 GB allowance, you will be billed $20.00 and receive an additional 1 GB of data to use. Each time you exceed the additional 1 GB, you will be billed another $20.00 and receive an additional 1 GB to use. Airtime does not apply when using Mobile Broadband Connect.
Obviously, $20/gb for overage is insane -- and more so if you have not used your phone allowance.
What I would like is a link to "the fine print" on how data tethering works, something I can rely on in the future. Failing that, it would be nice to just hear from someone who has this and understands it.
