I bought the white iPhone 4s yesterday and have loved it. But, I am having multiple people, iphone and non iphone users tell me that they are recieving doubles of my text messages. Is there a setting I need to change?
Thanks.
Hello dvpille!
I'm glad to hear that you are loving your device! I love mine too! I have experienced some duplications with my text messages, but not frequently. There is not a setting that needs to be changed. The solution that has been successful is, deleting messaging threads. You can do this by opening your messages and swiping your finger to the left or right on the thread you would like to delete. A delete option will then appear that you can select. If you show that a message fails while sending, and then you retype and send a new message this could also be a source of the duplication. I would recommend deleting any failed messages that appear.
Let us know if you need anything else! Welcome to the iPhone family!

I'm having the same issue. None of my texts are indicating they are not going through. In fact, the original texts are being received in real time in most instances. However, the text is sent again (up to 5 additional times) hours later.
Please advise as to a solution. I've only had my iPhone for 3 days and so far, not so great experience.
Thanks you,
B
Hello BOIson and dvpille!
I have good news! Apple has released a software update for the iPhone 4s and iPhone 4. You can update your software directly on your phone through the settings or by connecting to iTunes.
Here is a link with the instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
Thanks again for your posts!
I was having the same issue with one friend that has an iPhone 4s as well. I am not sure if yet if my other non iPhone friends are receiving double texts, but I will find out soon now that I am aware of this issue. I went into iTunes and checked for a software update, but my iPhone is only a few days old (for me) and there were no updates available. However, after plugging into my laptop and checking for this update, my friend says the double text stopped (at least the one test text). Maybe it is that simple of a fix, but something tells me nothing in life is that easy (new to Apple stuff so maybe it is that easy?).
I am receiving duplicate text messages on my iphone 4s. My software is up to date. Not usre what is going on.
I have an iPhone 4 and my firmware is up to date. I am also experiencing this problem and have been notified by friends on multiple carriers that they are receiving duplicate messages, sometimes a day or two after they are sent. I don't recall any indication that there was a problem sending the message the first time though. Any thoughts on solving this would be great.
You are correct, ZFiv this is happening with all carriers.I have also experienced this on my phone and it can become quite frustrating. Is this happening only with iMessages or also with standard messages? From what I understand, you should clear any messaging threads to prevent the duplicate messages until we get further instructions from Apple.Tamara H. Are there any updates on this issue? I just switched over to an iPhone 4 and my husband gets each text 2-4 times.
Hi Frysjean, The most current update I've seen is this is supposed to be resolved with iOS 6. Have you updated yet? Please let us know! Thanks, MelissaM_VZWFollow us on Twitter @vzwsupport
Hello - Everyone I reported this a while back, I'm sure someone at Verizon can verify. They problem seems like a location based\signal problem. It only happens while I'm at work - I always have 2-3 bars of 3G service. I have the iPhone 4GS with 6.0.1 (10A523). From before the problem was explained to me that the Iphone successfully submits the SMS message to the network but isn't able to get a confirmation from the network that it was sent... So the iPhone thinks the message wasn't sent - and trys again - and again - and again - until it fails or a confirmation is received from the network to the iPhone.
Yesterday I had someone complaining that I sent the same message 4 times in a row about 30 seconds apart. On my side I see the sending bar about 85% across the screen and seems to freeze there for 3-4 minutes until it fails or sends sucessfully.
I am still having the problem, but its been a while sense some has complained.
Thanks for your support.

Well, I figured I would chime in as my iphone 4 has been doing this for a while. I'm on IOS 6 and the only logical answer seems to be the one presented by Chrisbmilton.
Verizon, what do you have to say about this issue? Its driving my friends/family crazy... I work here in Boston and have the worst coverage ever on this antenna lacking device...
I got this phone for Christmas as a gift! And lets just say I had no idea it was texting people So much when It showed sent on my side.
I called verizon and was given a ticket number and they said tell tell a sales to send you a difffrent phone other than the iphone 4 s.
well what are they sending me the iphone 4s. Same phone that keeps having this issue..
So not happy
I am having this same problem. I have an Iphone 4 with up to date software and it is sending random texts from days ago in leu of the real text I am trying to send. It does not seem to be sending texts meant for someone to any other people but this is what I am primarily worried about. I don't want a personal text to be sent to the wrong person. I would like to know what I can do to solve this problem. I have some very important texts ( too many to take a screen shot of all of them) that I would like to save so I don't want to delete my text thread until I can find a way to save my texts.
I am having a SIMILAR problem. I upgraded to the iPhone 4s (from the 4) a few days ago. If I send something to my boyfriend as an SMS when the iMessage fails to deliver, he gets two SEPARATE message threads (on his Verizon 4s) saying the exact same thing from me. It has happened when he is at different locations, so I don't think it's a problem with the service. I don't understand why this is happening.
I have the latest update installed (6.1.2).Can someone help me stop these double threads? Is there someone I can message to get help from.....or notify Apple about this problem so that it gets fixed in the next software update?
Thank you!
We just had the same problem and it's a very easy fix.
No matter if you have an iPhone 5 or lower, you have to create a separate iTunes ID from each other. After you create and enter all personal data, ensure that you log into your iPhone with the same new iTunes ID and you should 100% not get the duplicates that you were getting.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Hi,
I think you may have misunderstood my question. I'm not receiving any duplicates. My phone is SENDING them. Any way I can stop that?
Monica
I am having the same issue, my iphone is sending duplicate texts...some of them are actually deleted texts from weeks ago. I have done everything except a factory reset, which I have no desire to do. Has anyone come up with any solutions?
Amanda
And yes, my phone is up to date with everything. I have a Iphone 4...with all updates.
My iPhone 4s sends out my new text but then changes what I sent with an old text. Very frustrating!! Why can't Verizon fix the problem!!
This only happens when I text one number who is with T-Mobile. I send the text and it is received has part new and part from a old text message.
