Changing SD card on Samsung Stratosphere

I got my Samsung Stratosphere about a week ago. I would like to replace the 4GB memory card with a 16GB card. I know how to remove the current card and replace with the new card, but what else do I need to do? I'm looking at the files on the current SD card, and there is some data. Should I copy these files onto my PC and copy them onto the new card, or should I just replace the card without worrying about the data?

In other words... I have no idea how to proceed!

I usually copy the contents of the old card onto the computer and then copy them to the new card.  I actually this twice and in the last few weeks with my Tbolt.  Plus it is an easy way to get a backup copy onto your computer.
