Updates to bloatware

I have two pre-installed, unremovable apps (AKA bloatware) on my Samsung Stratosphere that have had updates waiting for them almost since I bought the phone several months ago. They are Verizon Video and YouTube. I don't use either of those apps, and don't plan to start anytime soon. I have never actually done the updates, on the somewhat irrational theory that it will only encourage them. My question is, if I go ahead and allow the updates (I get notices for them every day), will they leave me alone for awhile? Or am I going to be hassled to update unused, unwanted apps indefinitely? Or is there any way to turn off all updating for these apps?

the market will always notify you when you have apps that have available updates. if you update them, it will stop.....until they have another update available. this is with any of your apps. if there's an available update, it will periodically remind you of it until you update it. by updating these apps, you are not going to trigger it to bother you any more often than it already does. i allow mine to all automatically update so i just ignore the update notification for a few days and then when i have 10-20 updates available i just select "update all" and they all update at the same time.

Thanks. It's the kind of silly hand-wringing I sometimes do. Letting them accumulate and then doing all it once is not a bad idea.

i have to do it that way. i have over 100 apps so i would constantly be updating them if i didn't just do it all at once every few days.

I actually turned off my notifications for application updates in my Play Store settings for the HTC Thunderbolt. I currently have 9 bloatware applications that I refuse to update. Five manual updates and four standard updates. Then I got into a habit of checking the Play Store (Market) once a week or so. Sometimes more if I hear of a Maps update. When I would check, I would sometimes have more than the one update that I was expecting. So I would update the important ones and wait until later for the others.

I simply ignore bloatware updates, unless it's one that I use. Remember, every time you do an update, you are using data. If you are on a limited data plan (2gb), downloading the updates will gobble those bytes up relatively quickly.
