Why do we not get phones like the Samsung Note or the HTC One X? As much as I detest ATT, the lack of progressive phones makes me want to take my 5 lines and jump ship.
some carriers spend more time and resources on the devices themselves, while other carriers spend more time and resources on the network. verizon would be the latter. they will likely get comparable devices down the road (see the thunderbolt, that they got long after sprint had the EVO). customers with other carriers could easily ask why verizon got the nexus, but they didn't....or why verizon got the rezound but they didn't. sometimes it's simply timing. when verizon released the droidX nobody else had a comparable device. when they released the first incredible, nobody else had a comparable htc. in my opinion, in general, verizon tends to be a bit behind on the latest and greatest devices.....but i prefer their network so i can wait a bit for them to release a comparable device. check out the windows phone forums. they are WAY behind in those devices (they have one and it's nearly 2 years old).
and isn't the One X just a rezound that is slightly lighter and has NFC capabilty? i've seen the global version advertised with a quad core processor, but the US version says it's only dual core. the screen is less than half in inch larger. considering the rezound is 5 months old, it doesn't seem like the one X is really much nicer than the rezound? unless i'm missing some key differences, or NFC is a key feature you need.
It also has a lot to do with Verizon being a CDMA network with most of the rest of the world using GSM. This makes it a lot easier for manufacturers to bring their phones to AT&T and T-Mobile. Verizon phones take a lot more network testing and a lot of reworking of the innards as well as radio software. For the most part, even when Verizon gets a version of the same phone, it's almost unrecognizable.
, The OneX is actually quite a bit different from the Rezound. In addition to what you mentioned, the processor in the OneX is quite an upgrade, even at the same clock speed (the international actually has the quad-core Tegra 3, but that doesn't play nice with LTE), the Snapdragon S4 (dual-core) blows away most processors out there, while being more power efficient, along with an upgraded GPU. It's also running HTC's newest Sense 4.0, a much slimmed down version of Sense, whereas the Rezound (whenever we get the ICS upgrade) will only get Sense 3.6, just a slight upgrade (besides all the ICS stuff) from the Sense 3.5 it's running now. The screen, while only slightly bigger, and the same resolution, is Super LCD 2, a fair upgrade from the Rezound's screen. All in all, it's a fairly significant upgrade, though the Rezound is nothing to sneeze at.
Oh yeah, and I forgot about the significantly upgraded camera software and Beats integration across all apps, not just the stock music player.
ok....i guess it is quite an upgrade....but when the rezound launched i would say it was DEFINITELY a "progressive" phone (as the OP puts it). i would have put it up against any device on any carrier at that time.
I absolutely agree!
Thank you for articulating these points so well. I owned an HTC Thunderbolt, and I can say it was in no way a "progressive phone", it was a total pos. Sure it had LTE, but it was totally unusable in the iteration in which it was launched. I feel like Verizon looks at what the best phone is at the time, and then nerfs it in some terrible way, or makes us compromise on some critical component. Verizon, I want to give you my money. I would be willing to pay a ridiculous amount for one of these high end Android phones unadulterated by your ugly droid aesthetics, and I'm sure I'm not alone as I see forums filled with statements to the same. Please listen to use and give us the option.
