Samung Stratosphere Voicemail Screen Goes To Black In 1 Second

When dialing into voice mail, at point where system asks for password, the screen will not stay on for more than 1 second. I have to continually hit the power button every second just to enter the pass info (hitting the button once for every digit I have to enter). I've set screens to stay on for 30 seconds in the Settings, but no screen-setting adjustment corrects this.

Anyone else experienced this? Solutions?

UPDATE: This has been self answered. I did a hard reset to factory settings and it corrected itself.

Are you sure you don't possibly have your hand or finger over the proximity sensor? Normally it's on the left near the top of the phone, next to the speaker. One workaround to this would be to have your phone autodial your voicemail PIN. If you choose to go this route, from your homescreen, press menu>settings>call (might say phone or call settings)>voicemail settings>voicemail number. By default, this will say *86, but you can add a comma (or a p, depending on which option you have), then your PIN, and pound (#). It will now say *86p****# or *86,****# where the **** is your 4-digit PIN.

I have a Samsung Stratosphere. I like your suggestion about the voicemail password. Unfortunately, I can't add letters or a comma. All I can add are * # or ( . Is there another way to add the password to *86?

The T9 keypad that pops up should (though I don't have a Strat, so your phone may be different) have those few symbols on it, however, if not, you could type what you want into any text field, then cut and paste (longpress the text field) into the area where you add the voicemail number.

I have a Stratosphere and here are the steps I took to add the pin to my voice mail:

Menu: Settings: Call settings: Voicemail (2nd one down), hit right arrow: You'll see *86 and a keyboard appear. Type the comma followed by your pin number and the # sign and hit "Ok". You're done. Worked perfectly for me.

Glad the hard reset worked! An alternative that worked for me and others is: Remove the battery for a moment, then put it back in.

Just posting for others who encounter Stratosphere's password "blackout" glitch and may have customized their settings, created contacts, etc. before addressing the problem. Try the battery trick before resorting to a hard reset, which replaces everything with factory defaults.

The key in lower left switches between symbols keypad and number keypad. worked great.
