I wasn't planning on upgrading my Droid X and was just going to drop the family plan, which I do not need (unless my dogs want a cell phone
). However, with all the changes being planned by the "big boys.", that is Verizon and AT&T, I figured better now than never. First, with a new contract I'll maintain my unlimited data plan, but more important, both the forementioned carriers are planning on doing away with the subsidizing of new cell phones. I know that in Europe, the phones are not subsidized. From what I heard, Verizon will either completely do away with susidizing the new phones or reduce the subsidy amount by a good deal. AT&T is planning on doing the same thing. As for me shifting to Sprint, my only fear is how much longer is Sprint going to be around? Their buying and subsidizing the Iphones have killed them financially. But even if they survive, If heavy data users jump ship and go to Sprint, than they too will have to think about their unlimited data plan. But most important for me, Sprint does not have very good coverage in this area, although it has improved greatly, it can not touch Verizon for area coverage.
