Activating Roaming While Traveling

We are traveling in Italy and added an international roaming plan to my Droid X before leaving. The representative who activated the plan told us to dial *228 option two when we land to activate roaming. However, everything i see on the community boards here says that we should have done this BEFORE we left. Is there something i can do to activate roaming now that i'm here?

*228 doesn't add roaming capability, just updates it. your phone should show roaming next to the signal strength indicator.

you will pay dearly if you use your phone in europe, if you can use it without an international plan, as europe's not listed in the international plan.
