Exchange ActiveSync Fails to Connect

I have a Galaxy Nexus I'm attempting to connect to Exchange 2010 ActiveSync. I know I have the correct information input (I'm the IT guy so I have that already) for the domain, user, password, and server address. When I input the user account and server information on the first page and hit next it pops up a "Checking incoming server settings..." for a little while and then it pops up an "Couldn't open connection to server" message.

I know it's logging in to my account because I can see it connect and log in successfully in the security log on the Exchange server. If I input my user and password incorrectly it recognizes they're incorrect. I've tried SSL on, off, and allowing any SSL cert and all three do the same thing.

I've set up multiple iPhones and other phones using the exact same information with zero issues. Anyone else have this issue and found a solution (other than using an app like Touchdown. I just came from having a droid Incredible which failed to use exchange properly as well so I'd prefer to avoid this if at all possible)?

I actually found a solution to my problem a few days after I posted this. The issue was that my account in Active Directory apparently didn't have the appropriate permission level to allow ActiveSync to connect to the server and allow me to access my mailbox.

To fix it:

1) Go to a server and open Active Directory Users and Computers (Start/All Programs/Administrative Tools/Active Directory Users and Computers)

2) Within ADUC, go to 'View' and put a check next to 'Advanced Features'

3) Find the user account of the mailbox having issues with ActiveSync and open the properties of it

4) Go to the 'Security' tab and hit the 'Advanced' button in the lower right corner

5) In the 'Permissions' tab, find the 'Exchange Servers (domainname\Exchange Servers)' account, select it and UNcheck the 'Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent' in the lower left corner.

6) Accept the changes, close all of that out and you're done.

That's literally the only thing I had to do to get it working after stressing over it for days. The saddest part is, this issue fixed this problem on my Droid Incredible as well (which is the sole reason I got a Galaxy Nexus) so I didn't need to get a new phone in the first place. I love the new phone though so I'm ok with this.

I was having exactly the same problem. I initially set it up this afternoon (just bought the phone today). It worked for about 5 hours and then started giving me a message that there was a security connection error. I deleted the account and then tried to reinstall without success several times. I then realized there was one location where they ask for and ID rather than the e-mail which I had inadvertently added the e-mail. Once corrected it worked fine.

Thanks evernight2020 for your post. I'm running into the same issue with my GN (have been since 12/2011). I noticed my account (which is a domain/exchange admin) is already not inheriting permissions. Any idea which of the permissions was causing it to fail? I did find an android bug that alluded to it being an SD encryption issue that was fixed in 4.0.4.
