Cannot delete mail data on a droid incredible

Greetings

Like so many others i have the low space warning displayed. I noticed i have about 76mb of mail data. I have delete everything in all mail folders but this data is being stored some where. when i pull up the application the clear data key is not lit up so i cannot delete anything. Is there any other way to delete this data?. thanks in advance

Have you tried to remove the email account from the phone and then reboot the phone and see it that clears the data for the Mail application?

The best way I have found to keep the email data low is to reduce the number of days worth of emails that are synced to the phone. I keep mine at 3 and anything older than that I just have to go to a computer for. I figure anything that old isn't important enough that I need to have it on my phone.
