How do I setup email replyto?

I have a brand new Motorola Razr Maxx running Android 2.3.6.

For my personal email address, I have a vanity domain, and forward email to the vanity domain to my gmail account. I don't like to reveal my gmail account. I want my contacts to have my vanity domain email address in their contact lists, because if I ever switch away from gmail, my public facing email address will remain the same.

On a web browser on a standard home computer, I have my gmail setting configured to "Send mail as:" my vanity domain. That is, if you're in gmail on your home computer web browser, and you click the Settings icon on the upper right, then click the "Accounts and Import" tab, the third setting down, where it says "Send mail as:", I have a second email address configured as the default. This works great!

How do I do the same thing on my Android phone?

Do you have Gmail set As your Main Account? If not it Would be Wise to as Every that flows Smoothly on that phone re-lies on Google..

I can answer my own question! How do you like that? Here are the instructions.

On your Mac (could be a PC), get into gmail and make sure IMAP was enabled by going to settings, then to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

On your Android phone, in the Email app, add an account by tapping the account symbol and choosing Add an account. That produces the Set Up Accounts screen. Tap Email Accounts, then Other. (You can also get there via the My Accounts app, tapping Add account.) On the next screen, enter your public-facing email address and your gmail password, and, importantly, uncheck the Automatically configure account box. This results the option of Back or Next (you may have to dismiss the soft keyboard to see the options).

Tapping Next results in a choice of General Settings, Incoming Server, and Outgoing Server.

In General Settings, name the account, and assign a Real Name. It remembers the email address entered earlier. Tap OK.

In Incoming Server, choose IMAP mail server. The Server is imap.googlemail.com. The user name and password are the ones for the gmail account the public-facing account forwards to. Now, importantly, tap Advanced Settings. Once there, specify Port 993. Check Use secure connection, under Use secure password (TLS), choose Always, and under Authentication, choose Auto. Tap OK to return to the Incoming Server form, and tap Verify Server.

In Outgoing Server, enter smtp.googlemail.com for the SMTP server field. The user name and password are the ones for the gmail account the public-facing account forwards to. Under Advanced Settings, specify Port 465, and check Use secure connection. Then set Use secure password (TLS) to Always and Authentication to Auto. Tap OK to return to the Outgoing Server form, and tap Verify Server.

If both Verify Server actions worked, then tapping OK and Save should get you back to Email, where the little account symbol in the upper left now gives you a choice of accounts. Going to the new account and telling it to Synchronize will display your mail; sending e-mail correctly sets ReplyTo, and your recipients all see email coming from the public-facing address.
