Droid x Upgrade

Hello,

I have my 2 year upgrade available and I was wondering if I should go ahead and use it on something or wait until the Iphone 5 comes out? I was wondering what some of your suggestions would be. Would it be worth investing in the Iphone 4S or getting another Droid? I have been happy with my phone but recently got an Ipad 2 and feel in love with it. The main feature I love about my Droid is the google navigation. Is there anything similar that is on Itunes I could use? Thanks for your help.

Personally, I wouldn't touch any Apple product with a ten foot pole, but that has nothing to do with their usability. You do, however, have to take into account that the 4S IS NOT a 4G phone (many people do not realize this). For navigation, the iPhones do have their version of Maps (that actually uses Google Maps, for now), but it does not include turn-by-turn navigation. They do have apps in the iTunes app store that will do nav but, AFAIK, none of them are free. Whatever you decide, do it in a fairly timely fashion, assuming you are still grandfathered into an unlimited data plan, because this summer (no exact time has been given yet), Verizon will be moving to new tiered data plans and, when signing a new contract (needed to get the subsidized price), you will no longer be able to retain unlimited data.

I appreciate your input on my new selection... I had no idea about the unlimited data ether... so what android phone would you suggest then; I have been out of the loop for a long time on keeping up with the features and such.

I personally feel the Rezound is the best phone Verizon carries currently, though the RAZR may feel more familiar to you after using the X.

I just ordered the Droid Razr Maxx and I have the iPhone 4. I'm giving Droid a chance again. A while back I bought the Droid X and hated it so as soon as Verizon got the iPhone, I bought it and love it. I use Navigon for turn by turn directions. You buy it off the app store. I paid 29.99 for it but it's only for my region and not the entire US.

The reason I am switching to the Droid Razr Maxx is I want to keep my unlimited with a 4g phone but I know when the iPhone 5 comes out I'll be very tempted to buy it. It all depends on if this phone lives up to my expectations such as not being buggy which I have found all android phones I've ever bought to be.

I forgot to mention that if you buy a 4g phone now, you keep your unlimited plan until you upgrade again or if you wait until iPhone 5 comes out and pay full price such as 500 or 600 instead of using your upgrade, then you can keep your unlimited plan that way also.

Thanks for your response and input Olivia... How much do you think the Iphone5 would be if I wait and use my upgrade? Also are you telling me that by the time the iphone5 comes out that unlimited data will no longer be around from Verizon?

If you want to keep your unlimited data plan, you need to upgrade now if you want a subsidized phone. After the changes take effect this summer, you will lose your unlimited data plan if you sign a new contract. A new 2 year contract is required to get a subsidized phone. I love my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. It has the longest lasting battery life of any 4G phone on the market. You can keep your unlimited data for $30 a month. For an additional $30 per month, you can get the unlimited hotspot feature to use with your IPad2. One caution. When you order your new phone, you may be forced (by the system) to choose a tiered data plan. As soon as you enter your order, call *611 and have customer service reinstate your unlimited data. Down the road, if you need a new phone (or the IPhone 5) you will have to pay full retail price or lose your unlimited data plan. As an example of the prices, the Droid Razr Maxx currently has a subsidized price of $200. Full retail is $650. I'm sure the IPhone 5 will be that much or more.

I would doubt it will be out before the change, they know it's going to be a big seller, and a good opportunity to move a lot of people out of unlimited data.
