Why do I have to pay a deductible for a refurbished phone??

Had a problem with my pantech  breakout fell in the toilet . Don't ask. Ok had  assurion and had to pay !00 deductictable, well the problem is they sent me a refurbished phone, How do I know, !st 3 girl's cstarted carrying on a conversation thru my text message. next i went to use my navigation for the 1st time and it already had several addresses in it. and then it asked me do I want to switch my language to english? I pulled up the music file in my phone and it's all spanish music. nothing of what I had in my phone??????, 2nd they want me to send them my phone back to them the one that's damaged. WHY so they can resell it to someone else for another 100. I paid for this phone.Now I just paid for someone else's broken fixed phone,

Because a refurbished phone is just that... refurbished, it takes manpower, which costs money, to fix a phone that was previously broken.  Not to mention that, if they didn't charge some sort of deductible, people out there (not saying you) would constantly "break" their phone just to get a new one when the old one was getting worn out.  And, if you were to buy a new phone, off contract, you would be paying a whole lot more than $100, even for a refurb.  You have to send the old one back as "proof" that it is indeed broken.  Again, covering themselves from fraud of sorts.  Overall, you have to remember that insurance companies, like everyone else, is in it to make money.  However, the fact that they didn't clear off old user data really sucks, for the previous owner.  Someone could do some real damage with info that is left on a phone.  Factory reset that sucker, NOW!  You should probably even call Asurion back to let them know that they need to do a better job of clearing off data from phones they send out.
