Don't Buy a Droid Razr Maxx

I've had more problems with my Droid Razr Maxx. Another issue came up today and I spent 1 hour and 15 minutes with Verizon and Motorola on the phone. After the factory reset wouldn't work, Verizon offered to replace the phone. This would have been my 3rd brand new phone in 6 weeks!!! I didn't even bother downloading the ICS software because of all the complaints people are having. I'm getting a new IPhone tomorrow. I'm done with Motorola products.

I have had zero issues with mine. It is the best Android device I have had.

im a beleiver that many problems with smart phones are because of the user and apps, not the phone

I have the standard razr but am considering exchanging for a maxx, or possibly an S3 or Nexus. My kids have ipods and they have been a pain to deal with. So I'm not much of an apple fan.

What specificaly are the problems you are having with the phone?

Funny, its not the user. Even Verizon and Motorola people couldn't get the phone to work.

I like the phone, however doing basic changes, the phone doesn't respond to them or recognize them. I had only downloaded 1 app because of the problems I've encountered with this phone.

Happy for those of you who've had no problems. I wish I was in that boat.

The first phone I had completely froze and none of the buttons worked. I had not downloaded any apps or added anything. I only had it about a week or so.

Yesterday I tried to put a pause on the voice mail password so I wouldn't have to enter my password everytime I called voicemail and the phone would not save the change. Even after I did the factory reset today with Verizon on the phone, it still would not save the change. I could still use the phone, however I would have to put my password in each time and when I used the bluetooth feature through my new car stereo. It's supposed to be an easy change and I followed the directions, however it didn't work.

I just did it, I went in and modified the VoiceMail contact, and where it had *86, I changed it so it looks like this

*86,,,1,2,3,4,# and it worked fine for me. What did you put in?

I did what you have listed and I also did it without the commas between the numbers in my password. The phone would not save the changes. Its a defect plain and simple.

I loved it until today. I got the dreaded ICS automatic download. Not by choice. It SUCKS now.I hate it. Lags,freezes, the screen lock is just for looks..it doesn't work, and the extra battery life for Maxx is now null and void. Hate the new OS. Buy an iphone.

It can't be that bad. Did you make sure that all you apps were up to date: it might not hurt to try a F.D.R..might help it..

it's not the phone, it's the new ICS (ice cream sandwich) operating system they forced on us recently. the phone was amazing on gingerbread.

I downloaded google voice and it works great. When downloading it, it says it isn't compatible with the phone, but it is. I love it.

No we can't say that: It wasn't force on ya.! If you remember Customers have been asking & wanting for this new OS for a while now and before you tapped the Except button to take the download you could have stayed on Ginger by putting it off for 24 hours.) I have done on my first Maxx several times Now. The reason I haven't done it yet is because i use it as reference Tool to trouble shoot. But there will be updates to fix the few bugs that were shipped with the OS. you just have to be patient..For us ones that have the new OS this is on my second Maxx we've seen a little bug or two as well.. All OS's can have a Bug or 2 And reverting back to Gingerbread in Logical way can't be Done. Sorry :smileyhappy:

Did you not have to accept or click on something to do the install? I wouldn't think they would just "Force" it on the phone, I would think legally there should be some acceptance on the end users part to do the install or not...

When i first got my maxx it was on gb and had a few data and hotspot issues . I updated to ics and have had no issues what so ever. I got to say this is the best phone and os that ive ever had and do believe its about the best available right now. My friend has the exact same phone and has had nothing but problems. Turned out the problems were really him not knowing what he was doing or changing settings he didnt know why he was changing. He started reading this board along with other android boards and low and behold his problems vanished.Im sure there are people with legitimate complaints but if moto and verizon sold that much junk everyone would be using something else. It is amazing at what a cache wipe and fdr can fix. Jesse

I can't say that I have ran into any of those issues. It may be because I have not tried those features. Other than a few problems with some of the apps my biggest complaints are: crappy camera, crappy video and poor battery life. If I trade up for a Maxx the battery life issue will go away. That's a big plus for me. The video quality is not really that important to me but I wished the camera was a little better. Overall I am quite happy with the phone. Hope things work out for you.

I had GB for a few hours before the ICS update was forced onto me. GB was not anywhere visually comparable to GB on my facinate. Guess each mfg does there own thing with android. After the update to ICS, my first impression was I hated it. Given a week has past using ICS, it's not as bad as I originally thought. Browser is so much better. Settings and such are still a bit awkward and not as easy to get to. I'm hanging in and hoping for a possible update to JB. Good luck. :smileyhappy:

As B33 and others have been saying, stick with it, connect with others that seem to have had some experience. The Maxx is my second Droid (my first being a Droid Incredible). It was in these forums that I learned a lot about Android. As a result I have come to enjoy the flexibility Androids allow (iPhone does not). As for some of the problems you seem to be having, a cache wipe or FDR may be needed to correct those problems. I have heard of so many that have had similar problems and once they performed one of these their problems went away.

ICS over GB does take a bit of getting used to. There may be some things in GB that you may like over ICS but there are things in ICS that have way improved. Give it some time.

Thanks for the Link! Yup it would be nice to see the Update Soon and since were Basically at mid Aug. it shouldn't be to Far away..

You were not forced to update from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich, you are given the choice to manually update it and accept the download and installation. The installation even pops up a screen to make sure if you want to install the update before you are stuck with it. I bought my phone a few days ago and manually went in and updated from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich, it did not force anything on me. The only way it forced it on you is if you manually accepted it or you turned on the automatic update feature for all the updates, which includes ice cream sandwich.

The only problem with my phone is there is a small black circle and a few small dots which can only be seen in the dark with a dark back round. I have had zero issues updating from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich. My battery is setup nice to with my wi-fi turned on it last's me around 11 hours before the battery dies out, which is fine for me.

The small circle and dots are not that bad, I've just grown to live with it. If I went into the store it would probably just get worst if I received another phone with the same problem which may have even more circles and dots in the phone. I bought my phone pre-owned for 149.99 and the small circle isn't much of a problem. I got a really good price for the phone, it works correctly and I haven't run into any other problems with it.

The only thing I'm really mad about is that the phone did not come with a pre-installed 16gb mini sd card. Everything else was there but its obvious the person who had it before me took it out and kept it.

Same thing with my X. The OS update last year fried it and fried the SD card. No complaints that VZW sent me a refurb X overnight, that was great, haven't had a single issue with it since, but there was no SD card! I had to go buy one, and it cost more than the phone! Totally not cool. But I splurged and got a nice fat 32MB one for all my music and Angry Birds backups (heh heh) and that completely fixed all the issues I had with my first X. I think the crappy OEM 16MB SD cards were too slow for the phone, and that's what kept crashing it. So they did me a favor by not sending me a new card with the new phone.

To add password to default *86 in contacts Voicemail on Droid Razr M:

It is desired to have *86,,xxxx# rather than just *86.

On forums there are instructions to open the dialer, press the menu bar and enter "voicemail settings" and change.

However, only the speed dial preset "1" took the change and dialing from the status bar icon if there

was a call waiting. The "Voicemail" contact kept *86 and was not editable. To workaround that (for voice dialing with password), the following worked:

Add a second "Voicemail" contact with *86,,xxxx#. After saving that contact, the two Voicemail contacts automatically

merged to a single Voicemail contact with both *86 and *86,,xxxx#. Then change the default to the number containing the password.
