Deleting mail from ISP server

I purchased a Razr (Big mistake). I can send and receive email. (No problem.) When I deldete an email from the Razr, it also deletes the email from my ISP server. (Big problem) Does anyone know how to change the settings to leave emails on the server when deleted on the Razr. It was easy on my Droid Incredible. (Better phone) Went to mail settings and unchecked a box. No one at any of the Verizon stores I have gone to seems to know how to fix it.

What is the ISP? It sounds like the email is setup as imap or exchange. If it is setup as a POP server, there should be an option to leave emails on the server.

You might need to delete the account from the phone and re-add it to find out what options you have.

From the Home screen, go to:

Settings>Accounts>Select the account>Other Settings>Uncheck "Remove Manually deleted emails from the server"

Thanks. My ISP is ATT/Yahoo. My email address is through sbcglobal. I have been to Settings>Accounts a bunch of times. There is no prompt for Other Settings and I have been unable to find a check box for remove manually regarding deleted files. I have been to two different Verizon stores and no can figure out how to do this. It is really frustrating.

Might be there is a clash in there some were because of the Email Address ? Did You set up a Gmail Account on your Razr an if So did it Work Ok ? b33

Yes I did set up a GMail account on the phone. I sent from computer to GMail and it worked. I replied from the phone and it sent the messages to my sbcglobal account as it is prompted to do.

I went on a chat line with Motorola this morning. They couldn't help me either. I guess it is just not something I can change. BUMMER!

It isn't done from within the email app (email settings), it's done from the phone's System settings. Go to the phone's Home screen and go into the Settings menu from the icon on the bottom left corner.

Thanks, been in there a bunch of times. Can't find any prompts to change the setting. I think I've been in every folder on that settings screen.

Since the email address is hosted through Yahoo, have you considered using the Yahoo email application from the Play Store?

This is email settings according to Motorola. It also noted on the chart that you should use a computer to enable the "Delete from server" option on your email provider settings if using a POP service.

ATT requires using the full email address, name@att.net

I don't know if these are the settings that you were using or if they are still accurate.

I have been on chat with Motorola and still couldn't figure it out. I know my server says it is a POP3 but if I use the POP setting and try to verify certificate, it fails. If I use the IMAP setting it screams through the verify button and is successful. CL, thanks for the outline on this, but I am beginning to believe I am just stuck with it this way. Thanks to all for all the help.

Follow the steps listed below to set up your personal email account or Exchange (corporate sync) email accounts. If for any reason, your email account is not listed here, or you are having problems with your email account, please contact your email provider for assistance.

Adding an Email Account

Open the Applications tray, tap My Accounts.
Tap Add Account
Tap Email Accouns
Select an email account to add
Enter the username and password. Some of the more popular email accounts will be able to set up automatically.
- If you are unsuccessful with setting up your account automatically, touch Other from the email accounts screen and deselect automatically configure account by removing the checkmark. Use the chart listed below for the more popular email settings.
Tap Next.
Tap Incoming Server.
Enter the appropriate information.
Tap Outgoing Server.
Enter the appropriate information.
Tap Ok.
Tap OK.

During the connection, you may be asked to complete a manual set-up if your email provider is not recognized, your email address/password is incorrect, or if your email provider has restrictions on mobile email set-up. Please check with your email provider to obtain any of that detail. You will need your password, login name, POP3 or IMAP port, and server settings to complete a Manual set-up. If you have this information ready, proceed to next section regarding Manual setup. We have listed a chart of manual settings for some POP3/IMAP email providers at the bottom of this FAQ.

Logon to myverizon.com using the account tied to your phone. Once you are logged in, go to Sync & Connect accounts and delete any existing account. CLICK HERE to view example.

Delete or remove Email accounts

The process below describes how to delete all email accounts set-up under your Email application; not your Gmail application. You can only remove the Gmail account set-up under your Gmail application by completing a Factory Data Reset.

To delete either your Personal or Exchange email account, follow these steps:

From the home screen, tap Apps
Tap My Accounts
Touch the email account you wish to remove
Touch Remove account

If you do not see you email account listed under My accounts, Logon to myverizon.com using the account tied to your phone. Once you are logged in, go to Sync & Connect accounts and delete any existing account. CLICK HERE to view example.

Emails may reappear according to your POP3 email settings. Use a computer to enable the "Delete from server" option on your email provider settings if using a POP3 service.
