Blaim Verizon

It boggles my mind that everytime a glitch happens to a Droid phone (mainly those from Motorola) people automatically blaim Verizon. It's like blaming a newspaper for bad news. Come on folks. Verizon does not make phones. They do not make the OS that power these phones. They sell them. Period. If your Droid X or Droid 4 or any Droid fouls up, blame the manufacturer. I just finished reading in another forum about droids turning themselves back on after being shut off. This is a common problem that most of us are well aware of. Some of these people have the belief that this is only happening to them. All of them seem to believe that it is a Verizon problem. A couple of them did mention Motorola, just a couple. My Droid X has had this problem since the last upgrade, almost all of us have this problem. My work-around is to put it to sleep instead of powering it off. And I'm not blaming Verizon, I am blaming Motorola, but I still love my Droid X. I should mention that I just traded my Droid 2 in for an LG Spectrum, and this problem has not happened with it.

I agree with you Mortb ... and there will probably be others that will put the blame back on Verizon for ALLOWING the update(s) to go out or at least not put pressure on MOTO for at least giving us some fixed updates ... Like you, SLEEP mode works for me. Otherwise I still really like my DX .... ymmv

I guess I am one of the people who think vzw should put some pressure on Motorola... But... I'm certainly not going to bash vzw for a problem that originates at Motorola.

True, but remember, other service providers use Motorola as well. Should AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc. gang up and fight Motorola? I don't think that will ever happen. Also, cell phones are just one part of what Motorola produces. Personally, I think a service provider should take a new OS and try it out themselves for about a month. Find all the bugs and get them fixed. However, there are individuals out there who want that upgrade the day before yesterday. They would be screaming if a new OS or a fix was held up for an extra 30 days. So, what to do? Darn if they do, darn if they don't.

According to the PDF that's now available on VZW's website for DX support, the new software is 4.5.621.MB810.Verizon.en.US

I posted Motorolas ics plans and as of now the droid x ain't part of the plan...

It figures, since they did come out with the Droid X2. The newer phones get

the frosting while the older models get the crumbs.

Looks like it's just fixing some issues created by the last update. The only one of those issues listed I've had is losing app icons after moving them to the SD card.

Yes, and one of the problems the update says it adresses is,

"Fixed issue where the device may power ON without user interaction"

A fact of life as far as any technology goes, especially in electronics. The Droid X is now obsolete, dead, kaputt, finished. It is now the Droid X2. I'm only surprised that it's only two. The original, grandpa of Droids is now up to four. The Droid and Droid 2 are now in the same boat as the Droid X...sunk.

True. The droid x is def old in the world of smartphones. But thanks to Androids open code and a bunch of geeks, I think my DX has a little life left its "old" bones...

I don't think that the "X" is obsolete by any means. It's just reaching the end of it's "supported life". Mine's working great and still doing everything I want it to. However, I know what you meant.... it's just no longer being supported by Motorola. Although, that being said there is an upgrade (and probably the last one) that should be coming out in the next day or so.

Also, regarding who to blame when something goes wrong with your phone, if it's a hardware or software problem the blame sits on either Motorola or Google. Network.... well Verizon. However, since you puchased the phone from Verizon, that's where you take it when you have a problem. Very similar to purchasing a new camero and having a problem. Obviously GM is to blame because they designed and built it, but you still take it back to the dealer where you bought it. The dealer is in charge of satisfying you, the customer, but it is GM who pays the bill.

True. Take it back to Verizon for exchange or repair. What I am referring to is blaming Verizon for hardware and software gliches. Blame Motorola (or any other manufacturer) and/or Google; but don't rant against Verizon. They are the dealer, not the producer.
