Samsung Continuum Froyo Update Problems

Verizon pushed out the update to Froyo Android 2.2.2 to my Samsung Continuum earlier this month (about 15 months after they said they would when I bought the phone). The download and install went smoothly for the most part, but there are some minor issues and a couple of significant ones. The update definitely reduces battery life. I'm not a heavy phone user, but now my battery life has dropped from a couple of days to less than one. Now I have to keep a cord or spare battery handy.

Also, switching from mobile data to wi-fi, which used to be perfect and seamless, has now become hit and miss. Three-fourths of the time it works, but the rest of the time it just won't connect to the wi-fi network. This is really annoying, especially at home where I have a great signal. Once the wi-fi connection fails, most of the time you need to manually go and search for the network. Prior to the update, the phone would almost always recover from a dropped wifi network connection automatically.

The most significant issue, however, is the disappearing text messages ( SMS). The Continuum has a small secondary screen below the main screen referred to as the ticker. Apps will automatically move to the ticker as you bring another function into focus ( very handy when you are using the phone to talk or surf on the web and the music plasyer controls drop down to the ticker, for example). Also, notifications ( SMS, RSS, caller ID) appear in the ticker when another app is on the main screen.

Unfortunately,I have seen several times since the Froyo update where you are using another app (like the web browser especially) and an incoming text message will appear on the ticker (like it should), but then not appear in the text messaging app when you go to reply to the message. It simply vanishes after displaying on the ticker. Since the ticker truncates longer messages, this is a bad thing.

This is a SERIOUS bug and needs to be fixed immediately.

So has anybody else noticed this, and is there any chance Verizon will ever fix it?

Yes, I am having the same problem. It has happened at least 5 times and I'm very annoyed.

I am also having the same problem. I unplug my phone at 8am and it is dead by 10:30-11am. I am also having trouble with putting in my password. Half of the time the screen will light up when I push the button on top but the screen is not working for me to put in my password. Also, my phone is getting so hot during charging that I cannot touch it. Verizon said that it is not accepting the charge so all of that energy is building up in my phone causing it to overheat. My question is, how am I suppose to charge my phone then? My texts are disappearing as well. They will show up in the ticker and then I go to read them and they are not there. Verizon I am HIGHLY disappointed!!!! I will be receiving my 4th replacement phone tomorrow...sad, sad.

I've also been experiencing the following problems:

1. Password unlock screen issues.

2. Home screen empty after leaving applications. Need to wait for 1-2 minutes for the home screen to re-appear.

3. Phone locking up more often.

4. GPS unable to lock onto satellite. This is actually a big issue for me.

5. SMS irregularities.

I have noticed the empty home screen issue. I usually lock the screen, wait a few seconds and unlock it. Most of the time that returns things. It's a little annoying, but not as annoying as not getting the update was.

I have actually seen my battery last 20-25% longer since the update. The phone has been more efficient in that area. I had heard that was one advantage of the Froyo update (and have heard Gingerbread is even better, but we'll never see GB), and have experienced it.

I think I've noticed a couple of times where texts have not appeared in the app after having shown up in the ticker. I usually have my phone on my hip, in a holster, and on vibrate, so I may not have seen all of them. I haven't had people tell me I didn't reply to their text, though.

I'm almost afraid of any bug fix for these few issues, as sometimes those fixes create more bugs than they fix. It seems that some of these larger issues may need a trip to the store to settle, as there may be other hardware issues (faulty or failing internal hardware) that may be causing them. They may also require a factory reset, as the update may not have been perfect for your phone.

I've also noticed that my morning alarm doesn't work all the times either.

My main problem is when i'm texting and i'm pressing a number or letter it doesn't do anything. I have to press it a lot then it either makes a lot of the letter, like if im typing 'hey' to someone and i press the 'H' it comes out as HHHHHHHH, or I hit it 5 or 6 times and it does nothing!!!!! So when i'm trying to text someone it takes five minutes to type in six words or so. I'm tired of this, does anyone else have this problem? Or does anyone know what I can do to make it better? Tired of trying to do a quick reply to someone and would rather call them because it takes longer to text!!!! Thanks
