On 4G Smart phones it is not Necessary to do a *228 1-phone Update or 2-PRL Update as the Sim Card that's in the Device will do both Task.
Some of the 4G devices have a built in blocker. You will get cannot be completed as dialed message.
That's a good thing Tidbits an i took my *228 out of my contacts memory on my Maxx still in the X though but i thought it would be wise to post this after a Contributor that was asking my Help or a Opinion on the Razr ask about *228 an could he still use it. I would hate to see something happen to his phone after he just got it working.
This was repeatedly discussed when the HTC Thunderbolt was first released.
It is good to have it repeated again as customers switch to a new 4G LTE device.
Actually any 4g Device now will show a message that *228 is not available on a 4G device, if you attempt to call.
Dialing *228 hasn't broken sim cards (please dont say brick, with a phone it has an entirely different meaning) in like 9 months
Thanks for the info though
Thanks Guys i didn't want to make a Mountain out of a Mole hill or anything like that just wanted to make sure the new customers were aware of this. Kind of refreshing the subject in hand. B33
Well that's what i was told it would do by two Reps one in customer service on the phone. An one at the store that i bought my Maxx at. Now maybe they were both just trying to blow sunshine were the sun don't shine but any way the point got a cross. So that why i posted as i did. B33
Information like that is always nice to know. Thanks!
It's a good thing they disabled that for LTE phones too, because, out of habit, that was the first thing I did with my Rezound. I got the error message and nothing happened so all is good here.
Yup Demmo i don't no how many times i've done a *228 to one of my Droids an i guess our minds are trained to do it. An i still have my X so i will be doing the process for a While yet Longer that is unless i get another 4Ger. Our other line we have will be up April 27 so it's not to far away but i kind of want a wait a bit an see what new phones will be popping up at Verizon. One thing i have notice in my two Moto's is the P.R.L... my Razr Maxx's P.R.L.is 14010 an on the Droid X it's P.R.L. is 40086. Why there's such a difference of the two i'm not sure of. I guess would it be from the Maxx being a 4G device but one thing i do know is i don't have to worry about updating it as it will do the procedure by itself.
I found that out the hard way when I dialed *228 on my hubby's Stratosphere, and the message basically told me that the sim card keeps the phone updated. One site said he fried his phone trying to update it. Glad that didn't happen to me :smileyhappy:
Well at lest it stopped it there an didn't go any further saving the phone from Harm. But it wouldn't hurt Verizon or the Manufactures to put a stop Warning Sticker in the Box warning new owners not to do a *228 update. An the reps at the store could advise this as well.
Once all the phones are switched to LTE SIM cards there will be no need for the this update code.
Ann i can't wait till were switch over to 4G totally an don't have to Rely on 3G at all because to me all the switching back an fourth is what causes most of the Issues with these phones. when me an the folks were out tooten around the truck today we was over in the Sedgwick Co. Area an we got a piece of the 4G signal just for a few sec. an when the phone tried to switch back to 3G it took Quite a while to get re sync with the Towers but it eventually it Did. B33
