General question

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and signing off on Tmobile to switch to Verizon, I'm sick of the coverage, lack of phone updates, etc. There's three people in my family and we all need data plans, and we're all Android users. Just interested in hearing people's thoughts, pros and cons of moving.

When I was with T-Mobile, several years ago, I never had a problem with them. Their phones were above par (pre-smartphones). Customer service was excellant. However, the big worry is that AT&T still wants to acquire T-mobile, and I wouldn't use this company if they were the only company in town. I have nothing but bad thoughts for AT&T (who I also had for a very short while), so I am familiar with them. This alone would prompt me to switch to Verizon. I've been with Verizon for several years now and have nothing but praise to say about their phone service and their customer service. I probably am in the minority for liking Verizon, but all my experiences have been positively superb..

In response to your question, I thought I would give you a few things to think about. What I would do is compare a few providers in your area to see how they stack up against each other. Obviously, coverage is one of your main concerns. You can see Verizon's coverage at http://www.verizonwireless.com/wireless-coverage-area-map.shtml and zoom to your area on the map. Probably the next concern is money. The prices of the family plans are pretty competitive, so I am sure you will find something made for you.

I was with AT&T several years ago, but moved to Alltel because of poor coverage on AT&T's part in my area. Alltel in my area was taken over by Verizon a few years ago and I have had nothing but good experiences with Verizon. One other thing you might check is for a coporate discount. Depending on where you work, you may qualify for a monthly discount. I get a nice monthly discount, which is handy in these times of penny-pinching. Be sure to check out the list of smartphones available online. I was lucky enough to catch Verizon a few months ago when my upgrade time was due and get a Buy One Get One Free deal.
