Droid 3 Music Problem

My phone has been working fine for the few months that I've had it until mid-last month. What happens is whenever I try to listen to music using a headphone and put the jack in the slot, the phone starts calling the last recent number, hangs up, then immediately goes to voice commands, and back and forth for the longest time. The music works fine without headphones, but with it, it's unbearable to listen to anything, especially since its my primary device for listening to music. Can anybody help?

Something is triggering your phone to think that you have a headset (headphones with a mic for phone calls) plugged in and it is thinking you are pushing the button for making phone calls, etc. If you have recently changed headphones, that could be the issue or you may have something stuck in the headphone jack.

The Droid 3 is an excellent device to have, especially the music! The Droid 3 can hold a memory card with up to a 32GB of storage, of which can hold over 10,000 songs. Even though this is a very unusual issue that you are having with your Droid 3, I'm confident that we can get this resolved for you! To get a better understanding of the issue, I have a few questions for you. They are as follows:

What software version do you have on the device?
What audio format do you have the songs saved in?
Have you tried a different headset on the device to see if the results differ?
Are you using a headset that has the ability to make and receive calls from?

As demmo86rt stated, it appears as if the device thinks that you are trying to make a call. In addition to trying a different model headset, please verify that there isn't any debris in the earpiece of the Droid 3. If the issue persist with a different model headset then the next step would be a factory reset. I have provided a link below on how to complete a factory reset on the Droid 3.

As always, I encourage a full backup on your Droid 3 prior to completing a factory reset. Contacts can be saved using Backup Assistant. Calendar entries can be saved on your Gmail account. As for pictures, videos, and music, they can be saved on a memory card. Once the reset has been completed then the device would need to be re-setup. There is a brief tutorial on the device that will walk you through this process. Once the device is setup, please test all voice and data functions prior to adding music back to the device. After testing your services then please retry the music with and without the headset for audio playback. Please post your findings just in case you need additional assistance.

I am having the same issue on my droid 3. I have tried three different headphones and the customer service rep at the local Verizon store did a factory reset. I am still having this problem, all of the headsets were just standard audio no microphone.

Hmmm. I have a Droid 3 and have never had such an issue. I use Bluetooth A2DP far more than I do wired headsets though. It is possible that when you connect the headset the phone sees the contact making and breaking as the jack plugs in which acts similar to pressing the green button (call button on headset). Is your headset a hands free or a stereo headset? There is a difference. Hands-free headsets have a mic input. You may want to switch to a Bluetooth headset.
