How to retrieve text messages?

I broke my iPhone 4S recently, but just received my new one after 2 weeks. I have been getting text messages on my broken phone (screen was black but still would vibrate), and I want to read my texts. Is there any way to retrieve the messages that have not been opened, but were sent to the old phone? I have the same number, but nothing showed up when I turned on my new phone.

If you've backed up your phone via iTunes, all of your messages will still be there as of that point. You can take it to a iPhone data recovery place and have them retrieve the text messages from iPhone right now.

Hopefully you do it often and wont lose many of the new ones.
