Deleting Ringtones From the Ringtone List?

I have a Razr M. I added some ringtones, but now don't want them. I deleted the music files, but the ringtones are still in my list (settings-sound-phone ringtone) and no longer work (just make a droid sound). Does anyone know how I get them off my list?

Clearing the data from "Settings Storage" might work.

The only way I know for sure to clear removed custom ringtones from the list is to complete a factory reset of the phone. I personally wouldn't want to factory reset a phone for a ringtone list.

I assume by "deleted the music files", you actually deleted them from internal and external SD storage and not just the names from a list. If so I would do the following in this order, checking after each action to see if they were gone.

1. Soft reset the phone. Turn off the phone and hold the volume down and power button simultaneously to power back on.

2. Go to Settings > Apps > All > Media storage and clear cache and data.

3. Clear the system cache per the instructions from Verizon. (These are for RAZR/RAZR MAXX but should be similar).

4. Perform a Factory Reset. But be aware that you lose data, settings, etc. (back up everything).

Thanks for the info. I agree a factory reset is not worth doing just to remove the ringtones.

I was having the same problem, and fortunately I found a viable answer! I had accumulated a bunch of ringtones I didn't want from apps I had downloaded (sound effects, voice recorder, etc). And some ringtones would end up being added twice. So I navigated all over my phone and couldn't find a way to delete them. While I was troubleshooting this, I was looking for a good app that was like a playlist editor (most people use them for setting up a music queue, but I was doing an experiment with my dreams by using various audio effects). Then I discovered CLOUDSKIPPER music player!

Cloudskipper will upload all of your media (audio files) into the Recently Added folder. Everytime you download a new ringtone on your phone, it will automatically go into that folder (you may have to click on Refresh Library, but not usually). When you do a hard press on each song/file, it will give you an option to copy it to a playlist you've created, or you can delete it. What I found out was, when you delete one, it doesn't just disappear from the Recently Added folder, but from your Ringtones on your phone as well! What a delight this was. (Note: you can delete the files from your other playlists that you create without losing your ringtones, but for everything you want to keep, leave them in Recently Added).

Be careful, though, because if you delete a ringtone from Recently Added, you may never get it back. I had deleted this knocking sound accidentally, so I found the app that contained it and kept trying to add it back to my ringtones and it wouldn't work. It seems to keep a record of what you've removed and locks it away permanently. At any rate it's a great app with many features, user friendly, and not only nice for creating playlists for all of your songs, but it works extremely well for removing those unwanted files.

* Incidentally, the files on my voice recorder app remained untouched even though they were deleted from my ringtones, which is exactly what I wanted. BTW, I use "Smart Voice" which is another wonderful app.
