Data Connectivity Issue

I'm having an issue with one of the phones for our executives. Their iPhone 4 can make and receive calls, but when trying to connect with 3G will give an error about not being registered to a data network. The APN settings aren't listed under Settings anywhere.

So far we're tried the following to make it work:

Reset network settings.

Reset phone to factory settings.

Restore the OS.

Create a custom profile from unlockit.co.nz

We've even tried going to a Verizon store, but were told that nothing was wrong with the phone. I think it was more a lazy employee at this point to be truthful. I'm not sure if it would be a connectivity issue with a setting on the other end or what at this point. We really need to get this phone up and running because we have a big conference to go to coming up and he needs his phone to have data at all times.

It sounds like the programming isn't complete or there is an error somewhere. On the iPhone 4 you can dial *228, option 1 to reprogram the phone to the Verizon Wireless network. Since the phone is a CDMA 3G only smartphone, it isn't capable of connecting to data at the same time as a phone call.

Unfortunately that didn't do anything. The same error keeps popping up.

Have you called customer service and talked to their tech support?

We did try, but they just told us there was nothing wrong with the phone and ended the conversation. So far it's been a support nightmare.. Being in charge of the help desk here it really does put a damper on me doing my job in this case.

I know it is important to stay connected at all times while away from the office at conferences and I want to take a further look into this for you. I first want to apologize for the experience you had at the store. Obviously there is an issue if the phone is not connecting to the 3G network.

Thanks for providing me with the steps you have already tried. I appreciate you being proactive and I would hate to make you do a step for a second time. How long has this been going on for? Has it been doing this consistently? Are you trying to access the web while on the phone? On the iPhone you are not able to talk and surf the web at the same time.

Are any other iPhone's on your account having the same issue?

Also please make sure that Wi-Fi is turned off and that you are connected to mobile data. Please visit http://vz.to/smngb6 to view the steps on how to enable mobile data.

Try dialing *228 and when the voice prompts you to please choose option 1. This will program the device and make sure that it is connecting to our cell towers like it should.

Please advise if these steps work or if you are still having issues. I look forward to your reply.

No other iPhones or iPads on the account are having the issue. I have tried using both *228 option 2 and *228 option 1 as was suggested before. WiFi was turned off. This was not during a phone call.

This line was cancelled due to the poor support we received and the inability for this phone to be activated on your data network. Between this whole mess and the personal problems with stores giving me service for my personal line I'm fed up with it all. I've had upgrades stolen from my personal account with no explanation. I've been told "You're screwed and will be forced out of your unlimited data AND I don't care if you get another provider because for everyone who leaves I have 5 more waiting to get in the door. Now go away." when trying to do an upgrade. I've had an employee walk away from helping me because a cute girl walked in the door and he wanted to help her instead. The fact I don't eat the contract cancellation fee and move on is frankly a miracle at this point.

Hi. I am having the exact same problem. It has been happening to me since the 10th of February. I have had no internet on my phone but like you I can text and make phone calls. Verizon even tried to replace my phone but only to have the same problem. I have had three different trouble tickets put in.

FINALLY, on Saturday I called in to check the status of the last trouble ticket and the tech support agent I spoke with read through the notes and told me that there are many people reporting this same problem; so, it is a network problem and not a phone problem.

Hopefully, they will have it resolved soon. You should call Verizon back and inform them that you are not crazy and this is a problem happening to many people! If they don't believe you, I can give you my last trouble ticket number and they can look up the notes on my ticket!!
