My iPhone 4S is not making a sound or vibrating when I receive a text message

I have an iPhone 4S.

Recently, I have stopped receiving a tone or vibration when I receive a text message. Sometimes this also happens when I receive a call. I don't find out until later that I have a voice mail. Also happens when I get an email.

As I said, these symptoms have just started happening the last few days.

I have confirmed the side buttons are a) NOT set to vibrate and b) volume turned up to max.

I have confirmed that Settings > Notifications is turned on and that there is a tone for both the messages and calls.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

We want to figure out what's going on with these alerts and ensure they're working. Can you verify if the alert set is the same audio for both? Have you tested setting a different tone? Does music or other audio work fine on the phone when using speaker? We want to confirm if it may be a setting or all audio. Thank you for the details of what's been testing.
