I am only able to use my iPhone on speaker mode when receiving or making calls.

I can use headphones but I have to have it on speaker if I want to talk.

if you are saying that you can only speak into it on speaker phone then it's a software issue. MIght be a bad driver but not sure on Mac phones if you can just redo drivers or if you have to reload the phone.

That's quite an annoying problem! Let's get that fixed! Did you have a case or screen protector on the phone? Some may interfere with the microphone or speaker. Please retest without an accessories.

Also, please close all running applications http://bit.ly/12YwKKw and then retry. There may be one that is causing an issue with the microphone.
