i have a white and black iPhone. can i switch between the two by just popping out the sim card on the working one?

If they are both iPhone 5's, I don't see why not. You should be able to switch the SIM card for the activated line between the two phones and not have to setup the voicemail each time. There is a limit on how many times you can switch phones during the billing cycle though.
