Samsung Galaxy Stellar USB issues

I'm trying to help my daughter connect her Samsung Galaxy Stellar to the computer via the USB cable to use KIES and also transfer some files. For some reason, the cable will just start charging the phone and does not recognize it in any other way. There is no option in the pull down menu and the computer does not seem to be recognizing it at all. I've used the same cable and same computer with my Galaxy SIII and I have no problems, it recognizes it, etc. What can I do?

I often run into this issue when I plug a device into my computer. Once upon a time this was a challenge. Now that I know what to klook for, I want to share some steps with you. Let's start with what computer do you have and what operating system are you running? If it's a Windows based PC then I would suggest checking for any device or driver conflict. Also, please be sure that your antivirus/firewall isn't blocking the smartphone from connecting to the computer. Once you have tried these steps then please advise of your findings, just in case more assistance is needed.

To the above to posts from Verizonr, I appreciate what you have suggested. I do know how to connect a phone, and it does not even HAVE the option to chose how I want to connect, it just starts charging. There is no other options. Also , I use a Toshiba Laptop that is running Windows 7. I have used this laptop and my Samsung Galaxy s3 with no issues. It is only when I try to connect my daughter's Stellar that it doesn't connect. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, etc. I am looking for any other suggestions that would register her phone.

I appreciate what you have suggested. Elector, I do know how to connect a phone, and it does not even HAVE the option to chose how I want to connect, it just starts charging. There is not other options. There is nothing in the menu. Nothing at all in the drop down . I have used this laptop and my Samsung Galaxy s3 with no issues. It is only when I try to connect my daughter's Stellar that it doesn't connect. I am looking for any other suggestions that would register her phone.

Your link and post is telling me how to transfer music files. It does not even register on my computer as existing. There is no option as to how to connect to the computer. It just starts charging. There is no way for me to change it.

Having looked at the complete directions I cannot fathom this phone not functioning as the directions state.

Evidently there is some sort of fault. On the second link it clearly shows all sorts of folders and media. But it has to be done wireless through something called Kies?

I can look further if the second link does not help. Maybe USB to PC is not supported outside of music transfers via USB.

Additional information.

On the screen even though it states music it does show how to connect via USB

Accessing your device from your computer using Media device (MTP) and Camera (PTP) mode is similar to accessing a USB mass storage device.

See if that works for you.

Thank you so much for trying all of the suggestions here. It is definitely odd that you're still not able to see your daughters device. Elector has posted some additional great suggestions. Did you have a chance to try them out? If so, what were the results. Have you tried the USB cable that came with the Stellar as well? Does it come up on a different computer (if available)?

Sugarmag2014, it sounds to me like you may need to install the USB drivers onto your computer so that it can recognize the phone. Those drivers are available here -> http://bit.ly/Kca05M . Please make sure that when you install them, you run them as the administrator if you're prompted. After everything is installed please reboot the computer and try again. Keep us posted!

I am having similar issues to Sugarmag.

I am using the original USB cable.

I installed the Samsung drivers

I've even tried multiple computers. My Stellar just charges when I connect it to a computer with a USB cable, and nothing else happens.

Regardless of the usb cable I use, or the computer I try to connect to, my phone just uses it as a charging device. I never get the option to go into any mode whatsoever.

I also want to see what happens when you try to perfrom the steps to transfer when it is in safe mode http://vz.to/17n8S5E. Does the device recognize the SD card being installed in order to go into USB mode?

Hello,

I now have this same issue. The issue reared its ugly head after installing the latest firmware update that was forced down to the phone by Verizon. The USB options are now gone. Everything worked wonderfully prior to the update. Currently the only feasible way to move things to and from the phone is by removal of the external storage chip and copying from a PC. Verizon needs to address this issue with another firmware release or by providing means to roll back to a previous firmware version again. Sorry I don't have better news.

I have this problem as well. Verizon's update has disabled USB on my device. Is there a refund or fix for this? What is being done about it?

I am not aware of any fix for this as of yet nor a refund. There is however

a workaround that is reliable called WIFI File Transfer by SmarterDroid

available on the Play Store. It does not require your device to be

rooted. The application will allow you to browse and download contents of

SD and External SD by just about any web browser.

I was having the same problem and a co-worker of mine helped resolve the issue.

First, be sure you have the SAMSUNG USB Dirver for Mobile Phones downloaded on your pc. You can find the download on samsung.com or just do a Google search.

Second, you need to use a good USB cable, like the one that came with your phone. The cable you have now may work good for charging, but the pinouts on generic cables don't work/aren't efficeint, etc. (don't go and buy one of the cheap cords from Walgreens/CVS/WalMart, etc.)

**If you don't want to go through the hassle of downloading something that you may already have, try the cable reccomendation first. I was skeptical at first but once my coworker explained how pinouts work and why some have 4 vs 5, or whatever, it made sense.

i also had this problem with our Stellar, and my problem was fixed with changing out the USB cord. I was using one that came with it and works otherwise; but when i switched the cord my computer FINALLY recognized my phone instantly. it's worth trying before you do all the other installs, etc.
