I Phone 5 wont' update with *228
The iPhone 5 (and all 4G/LTE devices) do not utilize *228 in any fashion. I'm not sure what you're trying to update, as generally all *228 will do is either 1) program the phone, or 2) update the PRL -- again neither of these are possible (since you can't even CALL *228) on 4G/LTE devices.
To reset the network connection or update your roaming capabilities on the iPhone5 and other 4G LTE devices, remove the SIM card, power down your phone, reinsert the SIM and reboot the phone.
If it still won't give you a good connection, then have Verizon replace the SIM card (it's free).
