Live in an area where cellular service is weak. Is it possible to make WIFI calls with iphone 5s? How would I set this up?
I don't believe this is possible. You could get the magic jack app for the iPhone which works pretty good. However Your number will be crazy like *1234567890* You will have to give that out or you can sign up for service from magic jack. You can also use Google to make WiFi calls, and there are other free apps out there that use wifi for calling. Wifi calling is available on T-Mobile on select devices. I don't think the iPhone is one of them. Good Luck
Thank you for the information. I will check out the apps.
No problem. Glad I could assist.
Hi there JAS22!Having reliable service where you need it most is absolutely important! Although we're unable to support 3rd party Wifi apps, I want to make sure we review all possible options. What zip code do you live in? What model phone do you have? What services are affected (calls/text/data)?Thanks!MelissaM_VZWPlease follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Have you tried Google voice? It's free and it works on both PC and mobile. Choose your number. Works great.

I'm able to use Google Voice on my iPhone. No app required.
Hi Melissa from Verizon Support - I have the same issue as JAS22.
I have an iphone 5S and a Galaxy S4. I had a twitter conversation (@mangopants) between Sept 16 and 25, 2013. I had a ticket opened on the issue (removed). In an email dated 9-27 I was told "There have been some changes made in an attempt to resolve the problem." The problem was not resolved. (impacts voice and text, I use wifi at home for data)
Since my cell signal is unreliable and I have not had successful interactions with Verizon support up to this point, I am interested in finding another solution. Calling over wifi is my best possibility, as I am not sure a signal booster would be effective (signal loss covers a good 1/4 mile radius in my neighborhood).
I would appreciate any information you could provide. Could you begin by answering JAS22's original question: Is it possible to make WIFI calls with iphone 5s? How would I set this up?
Thanks.

mangopants lets make sure you can stay in touch! There may be 3rd parties applications that allow WiFi calls, however we do not support the activity. We want to do everything we can to help boost the signal in your neighborhood! You're right on track, network extenders are a start- they increase the connectivity indoors. Fill us in on the details, what zip code are you in? Are you having trouble with voice or data signals? Have you tried replacing the sim card?AshleyS_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Hello Ashley - thank you for your reply.
I'm in zip 30062, but you should be able to find me by looking at the cell number connected with my community profile, or looking up my twitter handle in your contact management system? I'm surprised at the lack of signal, I'm 20 miles from the heart of Atlanta.
I also answered your next question in my first post, we are impacted by voice and text - I use wifi at home for data.
It's not a sim card issue. This is happening to my neighbors too, and it was an issue with my 2 older phones prior to upgrading.
I would optimally prefer NOT to pay $500 for an extender when I'm already paying a high fee to Verizon, who advertises having the most reliable network and the most costly of all cell providers. Verizon fixing this black hole would make me a customer for life.

Download the app called VIBER it's free and you can call people on mars at no cost.
Thanks for the tip, I'll look into the app. I'm looking to call outside of an app (landlines) so I'll see what the cost of VIBER is.

I definitely can understand this myself. I've been with Verizon since it was Bell Atlantic Mobile (1998,) and while I've usually had some coverage when I traveled, Verizon has always been terrible anywhere I've lived. (And I'm talking about outdoors, not inside the homes.) Where I currently live, the Verizon map shows I have full coverage, but I miss many calls and many other calls are often dropped. And it's not just my phone, but wife and parents too.
Although I've complained multiple times, Verizon's "customer service" basically tells me that it's my problem and don't really care because they have so many other customers. I've asked for WiFi calling and they act like I've got 15 heads, all speaking different languages, none of them English. (And don't get me started on the lack of Windows Phone devices.... that's a different problem.)
But you can only call other Viber users, right? I'm not sure that's any different than Skype.
Sprint has just added two new devices to its free Wi-Fi calling service with plans to add more devices later this year. Users of the Samsung Galaxy Mega and the Galaxy S4 Mini can now benefit from the carrier’s Wi-Fi calling facility.Read more at http://thedroidguy.com/2014/02/sprint-brings-free-wi-fi-calling-samsung-galaxy-mega-galaxy-s4-mini/#xk7sTkAyyKBlzO2j.99
Verizon does not support WiFi calling, period. I made the mistake of choosing Verizon. You made the mistake of choosing Verizon.
Hello. I have the Samsung Galaxy S4 and live in Southern Utah. Zip is 84737. I get a great signal in most of the Saint George area but I am lucky to get 2 bars. I drop a lot of calls when I try to call family and friends. I switched from T-Mobile because the sales rel told me I could use my WiFi to call people. Honestly I would have never switched is I knew there was no WiFi calling feature with Verizon. . Please tell the powers that be that WiFi calling would be a great way to entice new customers to switch to Verizon! I know many T-Mobile customers would switch. I am off to find a WiFi calling app but I shouldn't have to use an app. Oh and PLEASE add some more towers in the 4 corners area.
Why should we even connect to our WiFi at home if it does nothing for reception??? I've been complaining for months about poor reception in my area, voice and messaging, and have gotten nowhere with Verizon. My contract is almost up and I'm seriously considering switching carriers.
Wifi calling is coming to Verizon in 2015.
Verizon Will Be Getting iPhone 6-Friendly Wi-Fi Calling In 2015 | TechCrunch
There are several apps available that will enable VOIP calling with your iPhone. The two I recommend are Vonage and Xfinity. Vonage allows free domestic calls to any number in the US and Canada while calling from either country. (International calling is available at an extra charge.) Xfinity (Comcast) enables digital voice subscribers to make and receive calls over a WiFi using your subscriber phone number and plan. I used both apps while traveling in Canada and saved roaming charges.
