Is texting someone in Canada free while i have unlimited messaging plan??

I was just curious if texting someone in Canada free since the Canadian Nation Code or something is same as US one..

and it would be really nice if it's free, since i have some friends up there

If anybody knows about this, please let me know!

When texting there are not any add'l charges. However calling Canada, does incur add'l charges
